It was so sad to see all the flooding here in Kingwood and elsewhere. My son sent me a video from a drone flying over the Hwy 59 flooded areas and it was just aweful to see the damage done to so many homes and businesses.  This was worse than in 1994 here in Kingwood when the water was so high and people were in awe then about the damages.  Stay safe everyone!   4951

It didnt peak as high as 1994 but I agree I think it was worst and more damage because we are more populated. Thats why last memorial day I SUGGESTED everyone get home and stay put and was told I was over reacting. Making people scared where I shouldnt because it had a long way to go to match 1994. Fast forward a year to the next memorial day and you can see we do not have to reach 64.0 to have the same damage and trouble.

The flooding is basically the same areas as in 1994, even with less water than 1994, except as @Burnsway pointed out, a lot more people are living here now and new businesses have been constructed too close to the river.  So, we already knew those areas flooded, and built new businesses and homes anyway.  Doesn't sound real smart, now does it?  4951

I know it's inconvenient when the roads close due to flooding, but it didn't seem like anymore places than the usual suspects took on water this time. If you flooded in 94 or in 08 then expect to flood again. Until KHS starts filing with water again then there is no need to be all that concerned. And if you build your home on the river then make sure you build on stilts or be prepared for flooding, because it will happen again. 4951

@Burnsway: 67.30 in 1994, 62.80 in 2008 (hurricane Ike) This one will go down as #5 with 61.90 and is the 3rd highest since homes have been built in Forest Cove. Historic Crests(1) 67.30 ft on 10/18/1994(2) 63.20 ft on 05/31/1929(3) 62.80 ft on 09/14/2008(4) 62.20 ft on 11/26/1940(5) 60.10 ft on 11/15/1998

The San Jacinto crested 6-7' lower than 1994.  It is a fact however, as stated above, that the damage in $$ will be higher due to previously flooded land being built out by developers.  Over the years, my husband and I have simply shook our heads as these unsuspecting new home owners have populated these previously flooded areas.  IMHO, this is beyond sad AND a criminal act on the part of the developers/sellers. 4951

Pulled my info off harris county flood district archived history levels. Maybe they entered that before it peaked. Anyway you look at it, thats a lot more than this weekend but yet damage and depth in homes were very close.

@Burnsway: Not really, if you think of it. This was a very high crest (3rd highest in recent history) so it makes sense that some places that haven't flooded in years did take on water, but other than the homes along the river in Forest Cove were there any other reports of water in homes? I haven't heard of any. I haven't heard of homes flooding north side of Hamblen yet either. And of course Kings Harbor wasn't around back then and given it's location flooding would be expected regardless. Street flooding is to be expected and there is a reason why many homes (forest cove excepted) sit much higher than street level. I would rather be stuck in my house a day or two due to street flooding than have water in my home. In 94 the flooding was much, much more extensive. The homes near the pond in Kingwood Lakes took on water as well as several homes in Kings Point. The Kingwood Lakes apartments also flooded and the sub floors of Kingwood High School flooded (mostly the gym with their band new floor). So given the recent height of the river I think Kingwood fared relatively well.

@Maisey1: The restaurants were spared the floodwaters this time, even the parking garage looked like it only had rainwater in the basement they hadn't pumped out....it was pooled there Saturday afternoon before the swell.  If this had been '94 levels they probably would be doing some mopping out now.

@HoofHearted: I saw those too. I believe this is not their first rodeo with flooding though...
I was inquiring about it on another thread to see if it was related to the new coscto and someone replied that they have flooded over there before. Probably 08 and 94 just like forest cove. I think I would move if I lived back there! 4951
