I have a nice pork butt in the oven slowly cooking.  Marinating it with BBQ sauce.  Going to make home made baked beans, beer muffins, corn and for dessert an apple pie made by Marie Calendar.  Let's just say my pie making skills are not the best, but everything else will be home made.  Thought about making potato salad, but too much food.  Emoticon 4951

shazaam i feel so plebian. i was going to do a brisket but instead decided to do a pot of chili. Chili a la Pierre Franey, from 60-Minute Gourment    1 lb very lean coarsely ground pork    1 lb very lean coarsely ground beef    1 T olive oil    2 cups  finely chopped onions    1 cup finely chopped green pepper    1 cup finely chopped celery    1 T finely minced garlic    1 T crumbled dried oregano    2 bay leaves    2 t ground cumin    3 cups tomatoes     1 can  tomato paste    1 cup beef broth    1 cup water    salt and freshly ground pepper to taste    1/2 t dried hot re d pepper flakes    2 cups drained kidney beans    Sour cream as garnish, optional    Lime wedges as garnish, optional    If possible, have the pork and beef ground together coarsely.    Heat the oil in a large heavy kettle and add the meat.  Cook, chopping down and stirring with the side of a heavy metal kitchen spoon to break up the lumps.    Add the onions, green pepper, celery, garlic, oregano, bay leaves and cumin. Stir to blend well.    Add the tomatoes, broth, water, salt and pepper to taste, and add the red pepper flakes. Bring to the boil and cook, stirring often, about 20 minutes. Add the beans and cook 10 minutes longer. Serve in hot bowls with a dollop of sour cream and lime wedges, if desired. 4951

@EllaMentry: Is that the one with arugula, mint, feta and a citrus vinaigrette? They made one on THE CHEW today that looked amazing. 4951

DW wanted a steak and we were in Randalls up front and they had beef tenderloin for $9.99/lb so we bought a smallish roast size and I cleaned it up a bit, tied it with butcher's twine and grilled it over hot coals in the BGE. Sliced it after resting a bit and all crusty brown on the outside and it was nice and rare and served with some grilled vegetables and roasted potatoes. We enjoyed our Florida holiday but as Dorothy said in the Land of Oz, "There's no place like home!" 4951

Yes, but I left out the arugula.  It was very nice and refreshing. 4951
