How could your 4 year old go unnoticed for this long at a crowded zoo?http://www.npr.org/sections/thetwo-way/2016/05/29/479919582/gorilla-killed-to-save-boy-at-cincinnati-zoo 4951

NO kidding- I'm from Cincinnati and we were members of the zoo for years. I know exactly where this took pace. First the kid had to climb a stone wall that's probably hip high on me- so close to 3 feet and then climb a fence before falling into the moat. Surprised the fall into the moat didn't kill him - maybe a 15 foot drop?I have to say the Cincinnati Zoo is my 2cd favorite zoo- the first being the San Diego Zoo. Cincinnati has done a great job over the years building and rebuilding natural habitat enclosures for all of it's animalsI stand corrected- they took out the stone wall and replaced it with a railing and and wooden pylons and  I'd bet the bushes hide another fence. 4951

@uneasyrider:  That is the first thing I thought when I heard about this incident.  The kid climbed through two layers of protection before he fell into the gorilla enclosure.  It's a damn shame they killed the gorilla. He actually had done nothing wrong.  He dragged the kid around some but had not really hurt him.  The zoo-keepers said a tranquilizer MIGHT take too long to act.  They should have tried the tranquilizer while the person with the firearm stood by and ready.

First thing I thought while watching it on the news last night. My husband was asleep during the news but I told him the story this morning and said  the death of that Gorilla lies with the parents. The poor zoo folks who had to do this must be having nightmares. I feel sorry for them and the poor Gorilla. 4951

People with IQ's lower than the animals in the zoo should be banned from going into it. 4951

@RogueHippEE:

Yes they will, considering the outcome at the Pittsburgh Zoo a few years ago. Mom picked up a 2-yr old and let him stand in a railing overlooking a hyena exhibit, if I remember correctly. Kid slipped, fell and was killed. Kid died and parents sued and won big. 😟 4951

There's two victims here. The neglected child and the innocent animal. The zoo acted properly because a humans life always comes first. The child had taken a long fall before being dragged and although it might not seem as aggressive keep in mind these are gorilla hands and he dragging him in full speed. Taking a risk by using a tranquilizer would mean that the human life did not come first, and if god forbid anything severe would have happened to the child we would be talking about how the zoo shouldn't have JUST used a tranquilizer.  The zoo would've received more scrutiny for acting poorly so I trust that they have a protocol and acted it out accordingly.  No excuses for the mother. SMH. You go to school for years to get that "degree" to get that "job" but being a mother is a FULL TIME JOB and yet any idiot can get knocked up. Basic parenting courses should almost be a requirement by law at this point. 4951

Please research and watch the whole video and listen to witnesses. This was not neglect. It happened in just minutes if not seconds and if I had been in charge I would have shot the ape too. Tired of people putting animals infront of people and assuming mom is always at fault.

He had his hands in her pocket. She was taking a picture and he was gone..poof. She was screaming for him when another mom spotted him in the brush and he was over the fence before they could get to him. 4951
