I have a question. Why does the power go out so much here in Kingwood. I know when there is storms it will go out from lightning. But if it's a little windy it will go off and on. Like 5 minutes ago it got a little windy and the lights went out for a few minutes. Is a tree touching power lines?? Just wondering. It has to be so bad for the electrical wiring in this house. 4951

It depends on the area and where it goes out often. Get awhole house surge protecion. My guess would be older infrastructure. It won't be replaced until it is cost effective for Centerpoint to do so.. 4951

I knew a guy that worked on the powerlines for centerpoint. He said (and this is what I got from a conversation a bit above my head) when a tree hits the line it will trip the power. After about 30 seconds a surge is sent down the line to find where the breach occured and if they can get it back on or,if it's a transformer issue. They will try 3 times and if you listen for it you can hear them sending the power down the line. If they can't restore power then they come fix the line or trasformer. 4951

Honestly I'm surprised we don't lose power more often with all these trees. When I walk along the green belts I can see the wires and many of them have trees and vines very close by. We do have underground to the houses but there is still infrastructure above ground. Here in SC there are poles and wires running along Kingwood Dr and between Woodland Creek and the next street up- between the houses. I remember after Ike they cam and cleaned out the trees around the wires -but that was years ago- everything has grown back 4951

They brush-hogged the greenbelt around the power poles near my house on Thursday. It looks really ugly, but it needs to be done. 4951
