Okay, so my sisters and I are going on a cruise in June and we all started kidding each other about getting matching tattoos.   I came up with the idea of a anchor....  You know..... family is what anchors us.... kind of thing.....    Maybe its a midlife thing, maybe it's not...  Anyway I can't decide  where... My wrist, clavicle/collar bone area, my foot or the base of my neck.  (would only show if I pulled my hair up......  I have a pretty professional job, but again I plan to keep it small and simple....Am I losing my mind????  lol 4951

@GoldenGirl: Yes, you are.  Tattoos are beautiful in many cases on young people.  Once they reach my age, they don't look so great.  And they don't start looking better as you get older...If you feel the need, get a temporary or henna thing that comes off in time.  You can thank me later.

@buffaloglenn: I totally get that with a larger one.. But a small one....  I wouldn't think it would distort much....

@GoldenGirl: Mine have.  This pic below isn't mine, but is representative of what happens over time.  They don't show you these when trying to sell you on a new tattoo!  Not that there's anything wrong with it; folks should just be aware that it won't stay new for long.

My cousin got her first one at 50-something....ten years later getting another.  They all look good.I have wanted one for years and years and think I'm gonna do it...small ones don't look so bad down the road, and in a tasteful placement. Just make sure you get a really good artist with lots of references. 4951

P. S.  while doing my "research"  I read several times that sunlight is a killer for tattoos.  Might consider putting it in a more "protected" spot. 4951

Old school tattoos yes blurred over time now with better equipment and techniques they stay pretty close to the original it all depends on where it is placed and if you use sunscreen when out in the sun. Hire a good artist that is in a clean shop and you will be fine .

I got this one a few years ago and it has alot of fine line in it and still looks like the day I got it and I'm about to hit 50 ...whoa.

@GoldenGirl: I have 6...all are in spots where the sun does not hit them too much and all but one I got 15-18 years ago.  None have faded and none look bad now.  I do regret one.  Use sunscreen and care for it and there really shouldn't be an issue-I wouldn't really get it on your wrist  b/c it would probably show more than you think.  Also, the one I have at the base of my neck shows more than I thought it would. It is also the hardest one to care for.

Terrible picture but phone sucks and i can't contort my leg past my pregnant belly to get a good photo....This is on my inner foot/heal, it's over ten years old. About the size of a quarter, can be covered with a bandaid if I ever feel like I need to. I have three total (hip, small of back, and this one on my foot). By far, this new hurt the most. Turn your head to view lol should be triangle up, not sideways!

.This is on my inner foot/heal,

@allymansfield: I wanted one on the top of my foot last time I went and the guy wouldn't do it.  He said it had been too long b/t tattoos and that it would hurt too much.  I still plan on getting my foot done though.

@RogueHippEE:

Everyone said the one on my back would hurt the most. It was not comparable to the one on my foot. 4951
