@Nurse3:

I had same problem. I had to give mine pills she would not drink meds. Gave her 2-3 nc she is 72 lbs. I tried every thing. Cortisone spray. Coconut oil. I finally had to take her to vet get her a cortisone shot her tail was so raw he gave her antibiotics. 4951

I give mine 25mg per day. Mine are 44,60 and 69lbs. I use the capsules but maybe you could break a tablet in half? My DD ( former vet tech) says 1 mg/ lb. Check with the vet to make sure! 4951

@nurse3 -try some that medicated bonds powder too. My schnauzer would get really itchy skin certain times of the year so I would give her 1 benadryl and put that powder on her and it helped quite a bit.  4951

I break the tablets in half for my 12# pup. The big guy gets a whole one. I really hate this time of year for them. 4951

Avon skin so soft as a rinse after bath helped my former dog.

Definitely wash tub afterwards or someone will slip and fall. 4951

My vet said .5- 1 tablet for my 10# dog. I have a hang over from just 1 tablet for my regular adult sized self. 3 benadryl is a lot of medicine. 4951

My big'un had a skin allergy that I found out later was due to lamb in his food. Struggled with that for awhile....he would lick spots on his abdomen and hind raw due to itching.

Used bena ointment in conjunction with the cone of shame for a month. I had to as when I wasn't home I couldn't deter the licking....even when he was crated.

At the same time I switched his food to chicken base and kept the cone until he healed (about a month).

My vet said lamb can be a common allergy? -Didn't know that.

Either way that was seven years ago and have never had an issue since.....

I was bathing him too much (several times per month) which was drying out his skin and creating Head and Shoulders dandruff. I didn't know any better. Now its no less than 4 weeks and no more than 6 for mine.

This may be different for your dog and was just what worked for us Emoticon

@TXtransplant:

We switched her food to limited ingredient a couple of years ago and thought that would do it, but it just started back up again with mosquito bloom. Im thinking that might be it. 4951

@Nurse3: It's that time of year- our one dog has licked his paw until it's red- he does it every year- I'm just thankful that this year it's only one paw- normally it's all 4. He's on steroids now
And beagles are notorious for skin/ ear issues. 4951

Say no to the brand.  Benedryl is Diphenhydramine.  Walmart has their brand for about half the price of the name brand.  But Walmart also has what I call super generic (Quality Plus in a pink box) for even less.  It's the same substance (Diphenhydramine).Benedryl and the brand in the dog section, both Diphenhydramine, are more expensive than the Quality Plus.  4951

@Nurse3: I also got some anti-septic spray from Petco that worked very well when my dog scratched to the point of breaking skin. You might give that a try too.
