We currently feed our dog Blue Buffalo and are thinking of switching to Kirland (Costco) brand dog food. It would be much more convenient and a lot cheaper. Any thoughts on this brand of dog food? Thanks! Emoticon  4951

I like Kirklands. A lot of rescues use it because it seems to be a relatively good, inexpensive food. 4951

From dogfoodadvisor.com:Kirkland Signature Dog Food receives the Advisor’s second-highest tier rating of 4 stars.Kirkland Signature Nature’s Domain Dog Food earns the Advisor’s mid-tier rating of 3.5 stars. 4951

I use dogfoodadvisor.com and I took my two organic bags (Kirkland) back due to the low ratings.  I feed my german shepherds Natures Recipe; gorgeous coats, top quality food.   4951

@doddlebug:  If the site gave the food bad ratings, why is it rated 3.5 stars and 4 stars? There is a conflict somewhere.... 4951

@JeanGrey: If you want a good quality but budget-minded food, try Taste of the Wild.  All the local pet stores carry it as does Tractor Supply.  4951

We switched from Blue Buffalo to Kirkland brand. Our dogs didn't really like the BB but gobble up the Kirkland one. Both dogs still have nice shiny coats! It seems to agree with their stomachs better than BB, too, judging by the business they leave in the back yard. 4951

I think the dog food rating sites, are, well, over rated. We feed ours Purina Dog Chow for years (mostly because heidi would not eat anything else). They have done perfectly fine. We did switch Heidi and Bree to Purina Bright Mind last year,1 - Because it is suppose to help elderly dogs brains2 - Heidi liked itAnd I can't believe it really did make a difference in 13 (at the time) year old Heidi. She became more alert, a little more playful, but more her old self.Echo gets Blue because, well, we feed Bree Blue as a puppy and she did really good on it.Echo is doing great on it also.We tried Fromm but Echo didn't seem to like it as much. Now here is a rel kicker, my oldest DD buys all these special expensive pet foods for her dogs. When we were there and left a bag of Bright Mind by accident, they went ahead and feed it to their older Chiweenie, and she lost weight and became more alert, so they are staying with Bright Mind for her.  Also I usually buy chicken gizzards and Chicken livers and cook them up in water and store it and give them a few pieces of the meat, and a few tablespoons on their dry food each feeding. They like it, I control the ingredients, and it's cheap. probably around a dollar a week for that special something extra. 4951

Does anybody have the current costs(and sizes) for the non Nature's Domain food(the costco website only lists 2 nature's domain foods)? I'm currently using Pure Balance Bison and Pea which is a Walmart store brand, decent price and mass availability if I need food while traveling but the largest bag is 24 lbs so my 3 dogs go through what seems like a bag every week(at least). 4951

Has a lot of carbs in the food; many "fillers".  Dog food Advisor states under their ratings that they do not test the food.  My German shepherd blew coat like crazy on the food and lost condition.  That's a good TEST for me.  Also, Blue Buffalo has had problems over the years.  It was on the news a few months back about them lying about ingrediences. We feed top quality premium food (Natures REcipe, Wellness and Fromm).  Dogs are in TOP condition to go in show ring and NEVER vet bills due to illness and low "stool volume". 4951

COSTCO also sell FROMM which is a very good dog food.  Not sure how the price compares as I have not looked into it yet.  One of my rescue friends purchases it at Costco so it must me a good price since she is feeding like 30 dogs... 4951

Dogs eat their own turds in the yard so I am not much concerned about them liking anything we serve.  We do look at the recommended cups required per meal to get an idea of the nutritional value.  Some require more than others which means you have a lot of filler.  Adds to the yard clean-up.  Had very good luck with Iams.  4951

Fromm is not sold at the Kirklands in Humble; don't know about their other stores but seriously doubt it.  I used to use Taste of the Wild BUT they were bought out by Diamond. I noticed the dogs were not in the condition they had been on it; then I spoke with their rep and they have been bought out.  Dog food companies have up to one year to change the wording on their bags.   4951

@doodlebug, why must you always post in large bold font?  We'll read it, no need to be obnoxious about it... 4951
