That was fast, they dropped it $15,387, just below where it was last year.  Would like it lower since it's gone up almost 70k in 3 years.  But, I think we'll take it and protest again next year, when I'm sure they will raise it again.  4951

Appraisal? Are you doing it yourself or dos you use O'Connor and Assoc.? Keep them on retainer, so to speak, and they will fight for you every year. 4951

@donnatella,  Yes appraisal, I did it myself, I think it was last week online and opted in for iSettle.  I just listed all of the work that needs to be done to this old house and said I didn't think a $70,000 increase if value since we purchased the house was accurate, in a polite way Emoticon Potentially, if we hired someone they would do better.  I didn't want to have to go in and make my case so I opted in for iSettle. 4951

@MarT, I do the same thing each year.  Good for you! Just out of curiosity, how much does the company pay to do this each year? If I can get them to lower it 15-20K each year on my own, would it be worth paying someone I wonder. 4951

@TxbutterflyWe've never used a company, I have sent the form in without any support before and it was just ignored, lol.I suppose if you're here long term, it might pay to use a company to keep it as low as possible, because of the long term affect of increases each year.  I honestly didn't think it would work so I gave it a shot.  It literally took me less than 5 minutes.  You do have to state what you think the fair value is, I said it was 35k less than this years appraisal and they gave me 15K+ back.  4951

Our realtor gave us a list of comps, actual home sales, in our village and one other with homes of, approximately,the same age. We will do the same thing as MarT, and try to reduce the increase in taxes.  4951

Do you do I-settle online or do you mail something in? Did you have estimates of the repairs or updates you needed done or just itemize them without documentation? It sounds like you did a great job. Congrats for getting it lowered and not having to pay anyone to do it for you!  4951

@soxs momI did it all online, opted in to iSettle.  I didn't include any documentation only stated all the large items in our house in need of repair or replacement.  Windows, flooring, siding, painting, driveway replacement, bath remodel, etc... I asked for consideration because I didn't think our home had increased in value by 70k over the past three years.  You are required to give your opinion of the value of your house if you do it this way.  It took about 1 week to get a settlement offer.   I had to sign in online and agree to the settlement.  You'll need your appraisal form to sign in online, there 's a number on it that you need.  Today I looked at the appraisal values for the homes on our block, this change puts us in the middle, where as we were one of the top few with the higher appraisal.  4951
