My dh called kingwood computer at town center by chachis. The man gave him a shot at trying himself with some prompting. That did not work but we will take it by because he did not just say bring it in. Now we need his help and will take it there. 4951

pickles, try this....use another computer and download Malwarebytes and install it onto a flashdrive. Update all the definitions. Malwarebytes can be run FROM a flashdrive which means you can then plug the flashdrive into YOUR computer and run the program.malwarebytes has a free version which works well. http://download.cnet.com/Malwarebytes-Anti-Malware-Free/3000-8022_4-10804572.htmlyou can also get it here:https://www.malwarebytes.org/dl-confirm/click download free version on the left side 4951

@beadweaver: The owner is awesome.  I've only had to use him once (because I've built systems since I was a kid), but he did a great job.  It was a complicated motherboard issue on a laptop.  He and the soldering iron ninja he worked with did the trick.

@ProblemAgain: Great tool.  I had one sticky malware that required that I go nuclear on it and use jrt, ADWCLEANER and avast boot time full virus scan.  and CCleanerhttp://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/junkware-removal-tool/https://toolslib.net/downloads/ 4951

the reason you keep it on a flashdrive is to prevent it being rendered ineffective by the viruses and malware. often the first thing the bad guys do is rewrite the exemptions to allow them as exceptions or to change the definitions to allow the bad ones in. on the flashdrives they are safe in your pocket 4951

I do have to throw this out there.  I hate to lose.  Period.  I hate it.  To give in to people who are toxic/evil ... or allow a virus or malware to win.But sometimes the cost of winning goes beyond a reasonable level... and you have to give up the field of battle. If all these suggestions don't work, your best bet is likely to backup all your personal stuff (and scan it with a virus tool) and reinstall the operating system from scratch. 4951

Odins advice is by far the best on this issue. That  way you get a CLEAN system, and your puter will operate way better than it did before without all the crap that is left in it over time. 4951

and maybe put an SSD drive in too.  You can also use it in your next laptop.  The new ones last for 7+ years and are FAST AS HELL.  They make an old or cheap computer feel like a new machine.SSD drives are getting cheap.  80 bucks or less can get you a near top of the line EVO 850 258 GB drive. 4951

@ Humble MommyI agree. Rook is the best and very reasonable. Rook primarily services large corporations but will also repair individual's computers. Had a bad experience with Kingwood PC in Town Center and would never recommend. 4951
