Well, I went down to the festivities at Town Center this afternoon with a dear friend and couldn't find a place to park. I tried parking in the businesses parking since it was after hours but there were cops handing out parking tickets. So I didn't get to join in on the festivities and my friend got out to visit a vendor so I had to drive around the square about a hundred times. Why are the businesses that are closed letting people park. I surely didn't want a ticket. There should be a way to park without getting a citation from one of Kingwoods finest. Did anyone make it out to the festivities and where did you park??? I'm just abit sad that I couldn't park anywhere out of the square without worrying about being fined. 4951

Well that totally sucks.  I could see if they are open but closed should not matter.  What are they going to do for the 4th of July?  People park all over and the crowd is much larger... 4951

Can you tell me which businesses had HPD issuing tickets and I will see what I can find out. I have not heard of that before. Certainly the small parking area next to State Farm had some bays coned for their guests but the rest were open and used by the public, Also I think the rear of Chachis and Gigis etc were open to the public 4951

@Peoples: You would be mistaken. Police cannot write parking tickets for parking in a private lot (other than a fire lane violation). Is this just your assumption or do you have proof? If they were hired by the private lot to tell people not to park there, the business was doing you a favor because they can tow your car without the police being present.  Its their private lot and they can tell you not to park there just like to can tell people not to park in your driveway.

I was getting my marrow bones for broth. I saw four officers writing tickets. One was a parking lot with all closed business. The other a parking lot of the nail place that WAS still open. It appeared like they were writing tickets of those parking in front of closed businesses. I can't walk from Randal's it's a little far I get tired. They should let people park where businesses are closed. These holidays do not happen often. I don't know its rough when you need to park. I wanted to park in the handy CSP Lane of a closed business I dare not though and just left. 4951

@Ann2800:  You simply do not know what you are talking about. Other than a handicap parking violation (which I am sure you are in favor of) and fire lane violations, the police can not write parking tickets on a private lot. You just can't hire the police to issue parking citations in your driveway and neither can these businesses.

Yes,, very strange for cops to be handing out tickets in parking lots. Unless as a courtesy. Might be illegal. 4951

the police can not write parking tickets on a private lot

They can write them however whether they are legal or not is a completely different question.  People who are not as informed as others will assume they are legal and pay them thus the COH makes some illegal $$ and the individuals writing the tickets get away with doing something that is not legal.

People need to be specific as to what business lots there were.  I.E. name names...so Tony can look into it.  Even thought they may write them, it is not legal.

@Andreweggplant:  With consent of the lots' owner(s) it could (notice I said could) be legal. As in trespassing.

@chilladahun: Can you please tell me what you are basing your information on.  I also heard they were writing tickets.  Are you a police officer?
