So remember the night I was dying (migraine apparently) and went to the ER on Northpark on April 15? Well, it totaled $8,211!!!! HOW IS THAT possible? Really? I am in shock.
Insurance paid $2,300, wrote off $4,000 and now I owe $1900. I will have to pay them $10 a month for 190months! What has happened to our healthcare? So sad. 4951

@Zokomo: I'm trying not to think about such things as I lay here in my hospital bed.
I'm looking at it like this, as slow as billing is, I be long gone before I get a bill.
After all, I got a letter last week that said Medicare was reviewing a hospital visit in Wyoming from last June (key word: reviewing),

@Zokomo: Were you admitted?  That is absolutely outrageous.  What kind of insurance do you have?

@doddlebug: It's called tying capitalism in with Healthcare. And there's a premium for not wanting to sit at a hospital for hours on end.

Our capitalist healthcare system means you have to be as savvy about shopping around for your healthcare as you are about anything else, and service and product suppliers will charge what the market will accept.  Until we get for-profit insurance companies out of the system and medical and pharmaceutical lobbyists out of Washington and our state houses, we will continue to pay a premium for our sub-par health care. 4951

@ForeCPA90: Sorry, but I fail to see what Obamacare has to do with the school's insurance policy or the price private ERs are charging insurance companies.
If possible, please enlighten me. I would seriously like to understand.

Sorry ForeCPA90: this should have been addressed to Doddlebug.
Doodlebug: can you please clarify?

Did they do any diagnostic imaging (I.e CT scan) or blood workup? Unfortunately it's not just insurance companies but hospitals and physicians. Everyone's trying to get the bigger chunk of the pie and the patient pays the large price. I'm sorry you had to deal with that! Severe migraines are worrisome to physicians so I'm sure they did a CT to rule out any space occupying lesions, aneurysms, strokes, etc etc. Your health is above all. Hope your migraine(s) are better! Lower your caffeine intake, sugar, get a good nights sleep. Try not to use as many off the counter drugs for your headache because over using these medications can cause a rebound headache. 4951

@ForeCPA90Look at the very end of that post, he meant that for doodlebug@zed19910Yes, I did have a CT scan.  I knew they were pricey going in, and figured they would do one.I seldom have headaches, and actually have not had any since, for which I'm very thankful.Thanks for your reply. 4951

@Zokomo:

What'll tick you off is asking what uninsured, cash price would be. I tend to ask prior to offering up insurance info and it's usually lower than what I'd be expected to pay before deductible is met. unfortunately paying cash doesn't go against the family deductible to make it worthwhile to do. 4951
