This article shows science is catching up with stuff some of us already knew, and live with daily.   www.nytimes.com/2016 /05/02/health/bigges t-loser-weight-loss. html?_r=0 The struggle is real, and it isn't as simple as some would like us to believe. 4951

Food is like a drug and an addiction..  But it is the hardest addiction to fight because you need food to survive.  You don't need alcohol, cigarettes, etc to live.   4951

I agree with some of what is in the article, but would also say that our bodies were made to move.  Some of the drop in their metabolism is because they are not exercising much.  The winner even said he was so exhausted he didn't move for two weeks after he won.  That would obviously significantly lower your metabolism.  Part of successfully losing weight is changing your lifestyle, not just exercising for a few months to get to a certain weight and then go back to your previous habits.  I also believe it starts young - if you allow kids to be sedentary, they develop bad habits that are extremely difficult to overcome as adults.  Also, the extra weight they have carried all their lives makes it more difficult to exercise (joints).  4951
