I have lived in Hunter's Ridge for14 years and always have had Waste Management for rubbish removal. I know other Villages have different providers.  I have always been curious as to how the contracts get awarded.  Something just does not make sense to me on how one company has a lock on my service for so long. 4951

@jschiner, it depends on the deal the HOA makes with WM or Best Trash or whomever makes a bid.  Sand Creek switched to Best Trash from WM.  Best is OK, but WM is way better.I wish we could go back, but the HOA signed the contract based on price.

@Fallon:
Totally agree- getting tired of picking up trash that got spilled by Best and then they don't bother to pick up after themselves. Yesterday it was a can lie that had been in somebody's recycling been- guess it had been in my gutter since Tues.
I loved our WM team- they were great

I agree, Best is not as good as WM. But we didn't have recycling with WM. 4951

WM now has recycling. Since the homeowners in each village pay the trash maybe we should get to vote what company we want. Majority rules... 4951

Before I retired I used to put out a lot of bids.  You would always have some bidders very eager to spend money on you with dinners. etc., trying to buy influence.  I also have placed my fair share of bids and have found that they always can be written to purposely disqualify companies.I do not believe that our bid processes are as open as they should be.  I for one would love to be informed or notified when something is put out for bid as well as to have easy access to review the documents and an explanation as to why one company was awarded a contract over another without taking the word of someone at a village meeting.I am not saying that I believe that something is awry, just that without informing us of what is happening throws a bad light on the process.          4951

I live in SWH and at first I was not happy with Best Trash as at first they were hit or miss on getting all my trash. We have a small boxed in area along our driveway where our cans are for kitchen and household trash, it is 30 ft or so from the curb. They requested (as did WM) that yard waste or big items be put on the curb. If I did that they didn't always bother to check the cans along the fence. I had to call and complain a few times and I don't think they have missed since then. Their recycle guys are a bit sloppy.  They race down the street on Saturday morning quite early, I've now gotten in the habit of putting the stuff curbside on Friday night. They toss the contents of the bin in so fast that sometimes paper, plastic or even glass ends up on the street or my grass and they don't even pick it up. I used to get really mad at WM when we had them about cardboard boxes. I had cleaned out my garage and filled 3 or 4 cardboard boxes with stuff to toss, not too heavy at all and put them at the curb since we did not do recycling with WM. WM refused to pick them up and when I called they told me boxes had to be folded and tied up. I explained the boxes had trash in them and they insisted I bag the trash and fold the boxes as instructed! Also the would not take fluorescent light bulbs I put out, not the compact ones but regular 4 ft ones. Claimed it was against the law and I explained that they were not compact ones but it didn't matter. So I just broke them up in a bag and then they took them. 4951

I hope we keep WM in Fosters Mill. They do a great job for us. They will take big trash if I put on the curb even if it isn't big trash day.  I don't leave many boxed (mostly Amazon ones) but they take them even if I don't flatten them or put them by the curb. 4951
