I got a call from some joker representing the Republican National Committee this afternoon.  I stopped him early and told him that I am now an Independent voter and have been for about 8 years. That only stopped him for a second.  He was reading very fast from a script.  The tone of it was that the Democrats are causing the Republican party to tear itself apart and that a small donation of $75 would really help.  I started laughing into the phone but he kept up his spiel.  I finally said "HEY.... HEY" to get his attention.  He stopped and said "Yes sir?"  I told him "you have got to be kidding (I actually used a different word there) me! The only ones tearing apart the Republican party is the Republican party"  He started to say something, but I hung up on him.  I do NOT want Hillary for President but the Republicans must be running scared.  The people are obviously showing that they like Trump over Cruz and anyone else that did or could have run.  To me, Trump is a big question mark.  I would vote for him over Hillary but only because Congress will not let him do much of the crazy things he's promised.  At this point, Cruz will not get the nomination and he cannot beat Hillary.  If the GOP forces a brokered convention, Hillary will win, no matter who the GOP  runs. 4951

@FoFa Well that last column tells us who the most efficient & fiscally responsible candidate is. Unfortunately it also shows a snapshot of the political climate in the US. by showing the current votes won.At this point does anyone think that either Cruz or Kasich has any chance of beating Hillary? @donnatella, I am so fed up with these bot calls & charity solicitors & surveys, I am not sure why I even keep a landline. 4951

Here is something interesting

@FoFa:  It sure is interesting.  Bush, Rubio, and Cruz have each spent at least twice the amount Trump has but Trump still leads by a wide margin (while Bush and Rubio are out). The Super PACS have ignored both Trump and Sanders, which is a good.  That means they are not beholding to those groups.

@YankeeInTX: I think Kasich had the best shot of all them, frankly. He polled the best against Hillary in the beginning. We should have just come together and backed him for the greater good of the party. But he will never make it out of the primary because the paranoid "anti-establishment" crowd has already branded him as a (gasp!) liberal.
If you're looking to blame someone for the implosion of the GOP, look no further than the tea party and all of their silly anti-establishment rhetoric. We could have easily taken back the White House this year, but instead we decided to cut off our nose to spite our face and hand over the election to Hillary. Just my flea bitten opinion. @YankeeInTX: Well the Dems have about 21 M votes cast to the GOPs 25 M votes cast (give or take) by those numbers.

@FoFa  So then the questions become1. Will the Republicans show up to the Polls?2. Can Trump if nominated garner voting support from die hard republicans?3. How many of those 25M are independents that can be swayed when its down to DEM v/s REP?Oh & very good point by the way. I looked only at candidate totals.@imadrummer2K, I wrote an entire paragraph only slightly disagreeing with you, then accidentally clicked back to forum instead of submit. So my key point were basically that 1. Kasich had is chances early but his momentum fizzled & the perception that he aligned himself with Cruz stung. 2. I blame the Republican Party, not the Tea Party. Maybe I will go into the why's another time.Oh and I finished with I don't think you're allowed to use the word liberal on this sight. Check with management. 4951

Well that last column tells us who the most efficient

@YankeeInTX: I think it tells us who the best businessman is. Trump saw an immensely lucrative void in American politics that no one else wanted to fill so he took advantage. It's like recognizing a market that no one else wanted to admit existed. He listened to the complaints and frustrations of the guy on the street whether they were legit or not.  He then took those complaints and frustrations to center stage knowing that doing so in a somewhat controversial manner would get him all the attention he needed. The media took it from there. If you've noticed now that he's practically sealed the nomination he's slowly making an attempt to appeal to a broader audience.

I know in general most people here won't want to hear this but I think Retired Engineer is right in that Hillary will win the presidency. In regards to Trump, his overall appeal from a national electorate point of view is limited.  Yes he's popular among many Republicans and some independents but his views and rhetoric will not play well once we get into the general election cycle.  But should he get the nod, the Clinton campaign will simply replay all of his controversial statements regarding various aspects of our population, particularly as it pertains to Hispanics and women.  If he loses the majority of Hispanics, African Americans and women there's no way he wins in November.I don't think even with a brokered convention Cruz will get the nomination because the Republican establishment HATES him with a passion.  He stupidly (in my opinion) went to Washington with a scorched earth policy of I'm going to seek to sabotage and degenerate anyone that doesn't agree with me regarding NO compromise with Obama or Democrats in general, including members of my own party.  Not only that but I'm going to call them out in public. In the political world this doesn't earn you many friends on either side of the aisle.Yes I know regarding Clinton the Republican nominee will bring up Benghazi and the emails, and call her a criminal which is a popular conservative radio talking point.  However I just don't think at the end of the day the tactic is going to be effective enough to derail her from winning the election.  4951

@uneasyrider I think that's called politics. It is also why business & politics are more alike then they are different. It is also how anyone trying to get elected needs to respond. Do you think that the opponents aren't doing the same thing by campaigning on hot button topics? Appeal to a broader audience he must. Is it any different than how Barack Obama won 2 elections. Whether you are a conservative or even a slightly right of center minded person, who in this race can stop the left from continuing to run the country similarly to the current administration? A successful president better be able to recognize situations where he or she can take advantage of opportunity that results in accomplishing something. They also better be able to work with people they disagree with. 4951

While I certainly try to hold out hope for a GOP as POTUS. I am not overly optimistic. I believe the climate in the country as a whole leans left & I too think at the end of all this we will have not just 4 but 8 more years with a fiscally irresponsible White House. This is why I want to see a candidate nominated that will give a fighting chance. 4951

I think that's called politics

@YankeeInTX:  Which proves that ultimately he's no different from others in the race. As for being able to work with someone you don't agree with you have to do away with attitudes like this: https://www.youtube.com/embed/W-A09a_gHJc

@uneasyrider I hesitate to respond because I think it will make me sound like a Trump supporter & I'm not. I like to think I am a realist (I'm sure many that know me may disagree). Also I am writing without watching your link. I will have to do so later. What I think makes Trump different are1. He has financed his campaign out of pocket.2. He is beholden to no one 3. He bucks the system & says what a lot of Americans think whether or not they want to admit they think that way4. He is smart enough to now appeal to that larger audience & if elected surround himself with people that bolster his weaker areas. So I guess your right in a sense this proves he too is a politician. But I do think he is different from his opponents 4951
