My DW thought I should get one. I'm not so interested. Seems a bit corny, I don't have any Apple stuff so don't use Siri and I don't use Cortana or whatever on Windows 10. I already talk to myself when I am alone, don't really need a machine to chat with. Anyone using Echo and Alexa? 4951

A friend of mine has it and basically just listens to the radio with it.  It's more of a wireless speaker for her.  4951

I have friends who have one.  It kind of just sits there and if it is used at all it is for a wireless speaker.  Kind of made me re-think getting one.  I don't use Siri on my phone so I think it would be just an item to sit in the shelf. 4951

We have one.  He uses it more than I do.  We ask questions of Alexa about weather and traffic, trivia, calculations and conversions, and after we watch Jeopardy, Alexa has 6 more question/answers for us to try.  She keeps a shopping list, a to do list, and a schedule of appointments and events.  Sometimes she jumps into conversations unbidden.  Once, when I was talkin to my mom on the phone, Alexa chimed in with "adding breasts to your shopping list." 4951

I have an Echo and I love it!  I work from home and Alexa sits on my desk, playing music all day.  I like that I can ask her to play any song that pops into my head and more often than not, she plays it.  Your music collection instantly becomes as vast as Amazon's music collection.  You can also say "Alexa, lower volume". You can have her pause, play, repeat, skip over a song, tell you what the song and artist is. I play my Pandora radio through it and if I hear a new song that I don't know I ask "Alexa, what is this song?" and she gives the song title and artist.  You can get news, weather, weird news, entertainment. She can play your audio books for you. You can ask her all kinds of questions about history, people in the news, how to make chicken soup, etc. You can ask her to tell you a joke, but she needs to stick to her day job. She's not funny. You can ask her what time is it in Istanbul (or anywhere) and she knows.  She knows how many miles it is between any two points. Every week I get an email telling me what is new with the Echo. They are constantly making new features. She also will play games, compile lists, add things to your calendar. You can ask her what is on your calendar for today and she'll tell you everything you need to do that day. It's a good reminder.  You can get electrical outlets that can be controlled by the Echo so you can ask Alexa to turn the lights on or off. Oh my. I just asked her how many calories are in a big mac and she knew. And she does pipe up every now and then with some random comment. She responds to the Echo commercials.  I think it's really fun to have the Echo. Me and Kip Dynamite love technology. 4951

We have one, and we use it daily! We love her for finding out the temperature outside, hearing a summary of news stories, quick questions like "how many tablespoons are in a cup?" And listening to music. We seriously couldn't live without her! Highly recommend!  4951

You can also ask Alexa stupid questions and random things like "What is the meaning of life". If she doesn't know something and you insult her, she has a response. In the Alexa phone app you can enable new features and it's endless.  Today I went through an enabled a bunch of stuff. Like... you can get your horoscope every day, hear interesting facts about certain countries or topics, listen to the top 10 headlines on Huff post, get AOL headlines, play music trivia, I enabled a feature that allows me to tell Alexa to ask Earthquakes "What's shakin" and she tells all the earthquake activity that has happened today. There have been like 5 little ones in the last hour!!  Apparently Earthquakes happen all day every day and we're just not aware. They are small ones, like Magnitude .03 in California... There was a Magnitude 2.5 in Alaska though, within the last hour. You can also say "Alexa, Simon says _______" and make her say absolutely anything. Yes, even THAT. She bleeps it out if it's too profane.  My nephew gets all kinds of fun out of that one. 4951

I received mine as an XMas gift.  I have found that Google is a lot smarter and answers my questions, poor Alexa, most of the time she is just plain clueless. 4951

@jschiner: If you go into the app and enable some of her many skills, you can get a lot more out of it.  Check it out:http://lovemyecho.com/2016/03/04/complete-listing-of-alexa-skills-as-of-3416/
