My cat is a long haired black cat, nearly eighteen years old.  He has started having seizures about once a day.  I took him to the vet on North park Dr.  She ran some tests on him but couldn't find any problems.   One or more of his legs will all of a sudden start shaking uncontrollably.  He usually falls on his side when this is happening and immediately starts licking himself frantically. Has anyone ever heard of this happening to a cat or know what the problem could be.  I've thought this could start happening more to the point that I would have to put him own.  Any ideas please let me know.  I've had Smokey since before his eyes were open. 4951

The vet didn't suggest any seizure meds?  Our foster chihuahua is epileptic and we ended up putting him on some meds.  It only costs about $20/month in his case. 4951

2cd opinion. At that age I'd be guessing kidney failure- very common in aging cats 4951

Seizure Ned's come with their own problems like liver failure.  Probably why vet didn't want to put cat on mess at that age. 4951

Which vet? If is at Northpark Animal Hospital, that vet is a NO GO for cats. I took my cat there and they did a horrible job trying to drawn blood from my cat. They charged me hundreds for nothing, Dr. and staff are very unkind people. I ended up going to King's Crossing, not the cheaper vet, but one of the best in the area. Dr. Johnson is great.  4951

18 years is a good long life for a feline friend, I'm sorry you are facing such difficult health issues. We put our Sis down this Spring, 17 year old, not easy. She had lost weight, didn't like to eat and spent more days limping around and hiding then cuddling. I knew no matter what we did for her, the quality of her life wouldn't really be improved, just prolonged. Nobody wants to walk our friends to the cusp of the rainbow bridge, but sometimes it must be considered.  I just couldn't poke, prod and push pills down her throat anymore. She hated it Emoticon  I hope you both find freedom from sufferinghttp://www.peteducation.com/article.cfm?c=1+2118&aid=224 4951
