If your 5th grader is of able mind and body but yet cannot open his/her own door or have his own crap ready when you arrive at the drop of point, then his/hers future is probably not looking too bright. Be prepared for that child to live with you until they are 30.

Let me think. Is this a rant from the back of the drop off line.

Kinda reminds me of why I don't go to Opening Day sales at places like Costco or to sporting events. Those disorganized crowds are grownups and take even slower to mover forward.

Added: Please, remember safety in the drop off zone is the important factor. Watch for the children. I know it's frustrating.

I have as much of a problem with the impatient parents who drive around the line because they didn't plan well enough to drop off their kid and get to wherever they're going in time.  4951

@notfromhere: I would drive around people but not because I'm running late, just because I hope that it will make the slow parents realize how inconsiderate they are being and that their time is no more valuable than anyone elses...and I hate waiting in lines.

When I was dropping my kids, I would try to time it so they could get out when we were about 6 cars back from the door. I hated for the line attendants to yank on my door handle. My doors lock when I'm traveling 5 mph. And they would never give me a second to stop rolling and unlock them. Not to mention, my kids are perfectly capable of opening their own doors. I didn't understand the bigger kids who would wait for their doors to be opened. It's not the red carpet. 4951

@Mahm: Come on, we have an entire generation who thinks the world revolves around them, and school drop off IS their red carpet arrival.  These are the "everybody wins and everybody is special" crowd.  The sense of entitlement is staggering.

@notfromhere:

I use to embarrass my daughter by blocking the driveway just enough while waiting in line that people couldn't do that. I would rather wait for a slow parent/kid than drive around the line. 4951

We all have places to go. One persons time isn't more important than another persons time. How about being considerate and realizing we are all in the same boat. We are all there to get our kids out the door and to school. Try putting yourself in the other persons shoes instead of bashing them. Sure we all want to get through that line quickly and get on our way. It's cool to vent or rant to release the frustration but let's learn to be kind to one another. I too get frustrated at some of the parents in the line. Particularly the ones that park in the drop off line but it never really adds a significant amount of time to the time it takes to drop off my child. I vent to myself and then move on. 4951

One person's rights end where the other's begin.  No one has the right to hold up everyone else, just because they aren't in as much of a morning hurry as others. Being considerate and kind is a two-way street.  Just because you have all the time in the world in the mornings doesn't mean you can force your leisurely pace on others. 4951

I always wondered why communist countries forced people to wait in line and taught them to NOT want everything they saw.

Not that i agree with communisn but i am beginning to understand. 4951

Maybe just have your kids walk or ride their bike to school. There are so many elementary schools around here I bet you live less than a mile from the school.

Parents are to overly protective of their children today. Let your kids be kids. Riding my bike to school was great. I loved every minute of it.

And if you think it's to dangerous maybe you should just home school your kids. lol

Maybe the line would go faster if the parents would just push their kids out the door while the car was still moving?  4951

@sooner34: The parents of these kids are the ones that are continually being surprised by the red light turning green.  "Oh gosh golly, I've been sitting at this red light for a while now, but I'm certainly not expecting it to turn green.  Maybe I'll just stare at my phone for a while." 4951
