Hubby and I had a super fun date night last night at Martin Galleries. It is in the same strip center as Chelsea's Deli.

I saw a Groupon offered from them so we stopped in last weekend to see what to expect. Each person makes two pottery pieces - one done on the wheel and one done from a flat piece of clay. Me, I made a candle holder and hubby made a Texas inspired mug. We glazed the items after crafting them and we will collect them in two weeks after they have been fired. I'm really anxious to see how the finished products will be!

Hubby had way more fun than he ever expected and is already talking about doing more classes. The Corks and Clay class is a byob event and had a diverse group of people. It was very relaxing to just get into the crafting and to leave other cares behind for two hours.

I highly recommend this for a fun night out with a significant other or with a group of friends.

Plus, I love supporting local businesses! Give it a try! We plan on giving the 6 week wheel class a try this Summer. 4951

Do they help you make stuff?  If I were given a blob of clay, I am not exactly sure wth I would come up with?  lol

@Fallon:

First, look at the examples of what others have made in previous classes for inspiration.

There is much more guidance (imo) when working on the wheel. For my class, that was more where we needed it. Once you got the hang of the clay, you were directed to make a plate, bowl or vase. Me, I made the bowl.

For the flat piece, directions are given on how to make a mug, candle holder, flat pieces like a decorated cross plus more. Those were the three most common items I saw.

It was an all adult group but no artwork like @AuthorMan suggested was visible to my knowledge. 4951

@grinchy:
Will you post photos once you get yours? Two weeks can't come fast enough for my curiosity. I don't expect quit my job results either though!

@foxymama: It would definitely be abstract art, for sure. My guess is Boo would try to get a nude male model and make it "appendage" night. Either way, it would be a great time. We would definitely need designated drivers, or a car service.

@BooBear:  But if we have a car service, we can drive all over town, and continue the party.  If you get close to home, you might be tempted to go to sleep, anywhere, like maybe the floor or the backyard.
