They said that was a 100-year flood back in 1994 and so much damage was done. My first inclination that there was a problem was when I saw two sheriff's air boats speeding into Forest Cove. It was mid-October and it was the first day that Cici's opened. Strange what you remember. 4951

That storm put my clutter into perspective. I had everything I had to have in 1/2 a backpack. I was ready to evacuate. 4951

@QueenB:

Yep. My freshman year of high school. We got an unexpected two week vacation because of the flood. That and we saw President Clinton flying in marine 1 checking out the damage in the cove. I was in a canoe over hamblen when he flew over us. 4951

I was in the St. Paul (Minnesota) area on a business trip for a week, missed the whole thing other than the news. 4951

@FoFa: That's still scary when you're so far away and your loved ones are dealing with it all without you.

That flood was a little exciting..a huge tree came down in out yard and trapped us in our house, we had to use a window to leave for a few days. 4951

Wasn't that either caused or exacerbated by a miscalculation or failure in the Lake Conroe damn?  We weren't here then so I've just heard stories about people canoeing on KW Drive.  4951

@shodan66: The story was that way too much water was released way too fast from the dam.Regardless, we got a TON of rain.  For days. 4951

@shodan66:

Yes but also the drainage has been upgraded since. Some of the hotspots in the back smaller neigborhood after the dip....the park and the townhomes are still gonna get hit bad though.

My sister made it out of her driveway in New Caney just minutes before it was totally flooded with her family and the clothes on their backs. They came back to my parents house in Atascocita and we stayed up all night driving from check point to check point to make sure the water wasn't going to overtake our parents house. It was a scary night. 4951
