Note:  This post is part whining and part warning! When I got back from a doctors appointment earlier today, I found (when I used my mouse to wake it up) my PC had a picture on it with the date and time in large fonts in the lower left corner. This is a result of a new Win 10 update. This is completely new.  It also has some smaller icons but they are of no real help.  When you click on the Date/Time, it takes you to your password page.  Since I don't use a password and previously had the system set to skip that page, I couldn't log into my computer.  I restarted my computer and it started up as usual.  I think the new crap happens when your computer goes to sleep.  They call it a security update!?!  The update also loaded some new apps that I do not want/need.  I'm looking to see if I can turn off the new sleep recovery stuff.  If not, I guess I'll have to start using a password to turn on a computer on which only I use. Some of the apps they load might be useful on a phone or tablet, but I don't see any use/need for them on my PC.The update hasn't hit my wife's computer yet, but it will eventually load the update on it and YOURS! 4951

Usually through personal settings (where you set the screen saver and such) you can uncheck the require password upon wakeup (or some such nonsense verbiage as that). 4951

I'm still in the "refusing to update until they work out the kinks" stage.  Good info to know, luckily the computer guy we buy through sets up our computers with password protection.  4951

The windows 10 upgrade states that they will 'update' your computer 'as needed'.You have to agree to that to get the download. 4951

@lcoupert:  I don't want to uninstall the update.  Besides, Microsoft will just reinstall it later.  The added apps are an irritation but easily dealt with. @FoFa:  I tried making sure it was set so that it didn't need a password, but I forgot about that switch for needing a password after waking up.  I found that the update had changed that.  I changed to to "Never" and will test how that works.  Thanks!

I have been ignoring the invite to update to 10.  It shows up all the time.  Tonight I noticed some text like "don't update anytime". it was next to a box with OK in it. I clicked on the "don't update" and it all went away.  I'm sure if I had hit OK it would have updated to Windows 10.  Tricky  4951

@FoFa: Turning off needing a password upon Waking did the trick!  Thanks again!  They've hidden or eliminated many of the ways a user can personalize their computer.Microsoft THINKS it knows what is best, but they seem to think their average user is a moron.  I absolutely hated Win 8.0.  MS dumbed down it's OS so it could be used on a phone or tablet.  After they released Win 8.1 it was better, partially because I learned to set it to go straight to Desktop on startup and I didn't need a touch-screen to turn off certain windows.  I don't use apps on my PC, but have tried a few.  It took me a week or so to get adjusted to Win 10.  I have always loaded updates in the past, but letting MS control when you get updates bothered me a bit.  After this update, I'm more leery because MS changes some of the personal settings to what they think is best.  Then you have to dig through to figure out how to change those settings back.
