...a ruptured hot water tank. In the attic. Good news is we got the water and the gas cut off before the ceiling fell in. It was a very close battle, but we won that one. Bad news is...what now? Of COURSE this is going to happen on a weekend, which means plumber is going to be more than I can afford. 😕 4951

@magnoliamam: AGREED!! We have 2 in the attic... DH and 2 friends were able to do it last time, but that was many moons ago and that ship has sailed!! I should be checking on them now that I think about it... And why is it that cr** always happens on the weekends??!!@starryskies67: Sorry this happened, but you're lucky you got it before more damage was done!!  Emoticon

If looking for a happy part to the story - if it happened on a weekday, just think how many hours you could have been gone from the house before discovery. 4951

Call your homeowners insurance. If there is water damage they will send someone out to get it dried thoroughly and make repairs. We had a water heater do that and flooded the dining room. Since it ran down the walls too we got money to repair the wall and replace the carpet. The front of the house was really just one big open room containing the entryway, a living room, dining room and kitchen so they gave us enough money to to repaint and replace the carpet for that entire area plus the hallway leading to the bedrooms and I was able to do all the painting myself. We ended up with enough money to cover the water heater cost, plus got new carpet out of it.  4951

We actually found one! Have a plumber coming the afternoon, trip free under $50,no hourly charge, they charge by the job. Fingers crossed!

There actually is more water damage than I originally thought. The ceiling is slowly coming down, so had to run and buy a tarp to hopefully cut down on the impending mess. 4951
