I am trying to get in contact with the customers of Shell/Timewise on Kingwood Drive that may have experienced problems with the gas pumps not shutting off when the tank is full.Have you experienced this problem or know someone who has? Please let me know. 4951

Has this happened more than once to you?  Have you reported it to the manager at that station?  The automatic cutoffs sometimes don't work depending on the design of your filler tube and how deep the nozzle is placed.  That's why you should never leave the nozzle unattended while pumping gas. 4951

This has happened once at this gas station, never another one.It has happened to at least 4-5 other people (according to the employees) on the same pump within 2 weeks of each other. They will shut the pump down for a few days and then re-open it.The manager, owner, and insurance company are fully aware of the situation. 4951

@ebe001: If you are talking about the Shell at the corner of KW drive and Chestnut Ridge, that same thing happened to be a couple years ago.  The next day, the pump was closed and I assume they worked on it because it did not happen again to me.

@buffaloglenn: yes, that is the one. Thank you for your response, this seems to be an ongoing issue for them.

@Retired_Engineer: Bingo - when I pull in to fill up my car, the first thing I do is look for any cars next to me at the pump where someone turned the pump on, and walked away.  I have twice seen (and heard) where a pump did not shut off, and gas was spewing everywhere, puddling under the car, running downhill, etc.  And don't get me started on the idiots smoking a cig in their car WHILE THE FRICKING PUMP IS RUNNING!!!  The world is full of idiots, I know, but still...

@buffaloglenn: Well I wasn't smoking and my car wasn't unattended, I went to my drivers seat to put away my credit card.

I went by earlier today and they had another spill on the same pump and had to put the "litter" down.....this seems to be an issue that won't go away for them. Did the overflow today happen to anyone on here or someone you know? 4951

@ebe001: Which pump is it?  When it happened to me, it was the closest pump to the street turning in to the station from traveling west on Kingwood Drive, so essentially the southeastern-most pump.  I have seen that one with baggies over the nozzles a few times indicating they are working on them.

@buffaloglenn: It's number 4, closest to Kingwood drive entrance. Sounds like we are talking about the same one

@ebe001:  If you were not within reach of the nozzle handle, it was unattended... not by much, but you should stay by the nozzle as long as it's pumping.  Pump nozzles probably work fine 99+% of the time, but if you aren't standing by the nozzle and it fails to shut-off, you are risking a possible fire which likely will destroy your vehicle.  Cleaning my windows or checking my oil can wait until the pumping is done.

@eve001, next time you go to any gas station, they all have a number you can call for a state dept.  Get that number and call and report this.  If Shell doesn't want to fix it they state will help fine them along to get them motivated.

@Fallon: thanks! I will swing by after work to find the number.
This station is putting that entire area at risk by not addressing the issue on the pump, like someone mentioned earlier...this is a fire hazard 4951

It would not be a Shell issue, it would be on the owner of the pumps, in this case Timewise.  They purchased most all of the convenience store stations a number of years ago with the agreement in place that Timewise would purchase and distribute Shell gasoline

It is a simple fix, they just need to swap the nozzle. Takes about two minutes. Tell the manager if you can find him or her.
