Has anyone had a shingles vaccine at Walgreens?
How much did it cost?
Did you have any reaction to it? 4951

I believe that the price is several hundreds. I don't know about reactions.

no, not all insurance companies are gonna cover the entire price....and it is pricey!I'm on Medicare and it will cost me $224......so check with your plan....Kroger has you fill out the form for it and they contact your insurance to see what the cost will be..... 4951

yea, I get that it's a dreadful condition to go through - I watched my 80 year old momma go through it and she still has pangs of pain from it 6 years later.......but in reality, it costs more money than most senior folks on retirement pay can afford out of their pocket.....sad but true reality 4951

My husband had it back over Thanksgiving, and it's the 2nd time that he has had it. He's only 38. I asked the Kroger pharmacist about the vaccine, but like @Fallon said, they only give it over age 50. Now, I believe he could still get the shot, seeing as he is more susceptible to it, but insurance probably wouldn't cover it. Call around to the different clinics and ask what they charge - cash price. Also, I know there is a clinic out in the Spring area, run by a P.A., that is a cash clinic. They might have the vaccine, too! 4951

It isn't recommended until you are 60. You can get it once you are 50, but they do say to wait.It is a live virus.  Some people report a rash similar to chicken pox after getting the vaccine. If you have insurance it should be covered.  If not call ahead and ask for the price. Many times walk in clinics will give it for under $100.If you have had chicken pox and are 60, no way on earth would I not get this.  Shingles are hell on earth.  They are ungodly painful.  Just no way would I leave not getting them up to chance. You may still get them even after the vaccine. But the duration and rash should be far less with the vaccine.

@Fallon: My 21 year old son currently has shingles... I guess the good point is according to the doctor most people only get it once.. But it is really painful.

If you are older thank 60 it is suggested that you get it.I had mine when it was first available because I had chicken pox when I was in my early 20s. {Thanks to the kids next door!]A friend travelling with me broke out while vacationing in Ireland and it was pure hell until an Irish doctor gave him some relief.  The solution?  Drink plenty of Guinness  until the pain goes away.  It didn't work but he didn't really didn't give a damn how much it hurt. 4951

Thank you all so much for the information. I am 60 so I went to Walgreens this morning and gave them my insurance information. The Shingles vaccine didn't cost me anything. It normally would have cost $234. The shot was painless and so far, no reaction. Thanks again for all of your help. 4951

I turned 60 last September and my Endocrinologist wanted me to take the shingles vaccine, pneumonia shot, the DTP vaccine.  They gave me the pneumonia shot that day.  He sent a prescription for the other two to Walgreens.  A week later, I went to Walgreens for the other two shots.  I didn't have to pay for them.  My insurance covered full cost.Other than a little soreness at the injection sites, I had no other reaction. 4951

@Retired_Engineer: I got the exact same shots you mentioned. The DTP and shingles shot at the HEB clinic. The pneumonia  shot at the Drs office. I am on medicare with a supplemental plan and paid zero. I had no reaction to any of them.
