Remember the thread about delays in being able to get prescriptions filled?
I got a prescription sent to the pharacy on last Monday.
Last night they finally told me that none of my insurances would cover the meds.
So today, we go to pick up the prescription,
My wife takes a hand full of coupons with her, thinking we will get the discount advertised (coupon says $15 off any prescription)..
Pharmacist says coupon is no good, because I have insurance we used on the prescription.
My wife then presents a prescription card we have with the pharmacy that say 25% off any prescription when presenting this card.
Pharmacist says card is no good, because I have insurance we used on the prescription,
My wife then asks the Pharmacist how much our insurance paid toward the price of the meds.
The Pharmacist says our insurance company did not cover any cost on these meds. You must pay the full price.
I stepped in and said, you mean to tell me that because I'm paying for insurance and that insurance doesn't cover these meds, I'm not eligible for any discounts provided by newspaper coupons or pharmacy corporate discounts provided to preferred customers?
Pharmacist said, exactly, because you have insurance, you are not eligible for any of our advertised discounts. The discounts are to help the needy.
What is wrong with this picture?
Who do you think is paying for the discounts these other people (without insurance) are getting? 4951

The example of the pharmacy is actually an example of capitalism "left alone."

@Fallon

Same with Tricare (military health ins). Our child was on HGH, which is very expensive. Our coverage was very good, but the drug companies offered special deals to everyone but "govt ins". We also can't have an HSA or high deductable plan because we have Tricare. We use Tricare as our secondary for convenience sake and employer provided as primary. 4951

@deltadawn: Capitalism had nothing to do with the pharmacy example. The government taking over healthcare and trying to make the 'wealthy' bear the cost for the non-wealthy is what happened here.Typical liberal redistribution of wealth is the mechanism at work here. The pharmacy was just following government edicts.

Sorry, that just isn't true, capitalism had everything to do with it. Big Pharma, Insurance companies & their Lobbyists, and how that drug store chooses to apply their coupon policy are all there, and that is capitalism "left alone."  If the Government had really taken over, we would have a single payer system, yes with higher taxes, but medicines would be much more affordable, and you would not have to pay to see the doctor, get your lab work done, or have any necessary medical procedure, unless you wanted and could afford to do so. Follow the money dude - sounds like you have been listening to the propaganda. 4951

I'm not against capitalism, just don't believe it is best when "left alone."I think we should allbe able to enjoy clean air & water, and poison free soil.As well as public parks, libraries, roads & schools and sanitation, and police forces. The idea that "the market place" protects consumers is udder nonsense. 4951

@deltadawn: Don't worry its being harassed by the government everyday. Maybe you should be mad at those wall street cats that were bailed out and demand that mortgage be ontime.
