The Houston Fire Department regrets the loss of Fire Trainee Steven Whitfield II. He was transported to the hospital after collapsing during an exercise at the training academy earlier today (3/31/16), and later passed away.  Cadet Whitfield was hired by the HFD in October of last year and was a member of Class 2015-G. He had just celebrated his 32nd birthday, and was in great health. He would've graduated with his class in June of this year. Our thoughts and prayers are with Cadet Whitfield's family, HFD, his friends and fellow cadets.Emoticon  4951

Abc online reported a female had collapsed. So was that a mistake? Or were there 2? 4951

Never mind. I just went back to abc online and they have removed the article about a female cadet collapsing, guess it was reported wrong at first and they corrected it. 4951

I bought a plaque this past week, just because I liked the way it read.
It was a Firefighter's Prayer.
I don't know any firefighter personally but it touched my heart, it reads well, Asking God to support him in serving and protecting others.
It closes by asking God "Through it all, be by my side."
Our prayers go out to this man and his family, asking God to follow through with his prayer ; "That God be by his side and the side of his family at this time of sorrow."
May God Bless and Comfort them. 4951

I feel so sad for his family and friends. I'm sure the guys at the station met both of those titles. Anyone that gets involved in a selfless career to save others is a hero in my book. 4951

@Camelot: I'm not sure. He (the cadet) was originally from Bastrop and currently lived in The Woodlands.  4951
