I love watching this show on Saturday morning, but as soon as it's over, I end up getting up and redecorating based on what I've seen in some of the model homes shown. Today, during one of DR Horton's spots, they actually showed our exact great room, and I loved how they had it staged. 4951

That's a great way to get decorating ideas! Thanks for sharing! I've thought of touring model homes, but I don't want to be a nosey lookie-loo who is in their way. My house needs help....lots of help. lol Built in 1978 and still has the dark wood paneling....and I don't have a decorative bone in my body. DH loves the paneling....ugh. He is getting overruled, though. 4951

Every Saturday on channel 13. Keep in mind those are expensive staging pieces, but they are easy to duplicate at Garden Ridge, Michaels, Hobby Lobby, even place like BB&B, Home Goods or anywhere that has a home decor section. Home Interiors and Southern Living were great for that kind of stuff, but they are no longer around. 4951

Exactly @donnatella.  I love Ballard Designs.  But I rarely buy things from them.  But I look through their catalog, and can go to Garden Ridge, Kirklands, or Hobby Lobby and get the same look for less than 1/2 the priceEmoticon

@Fallon: Kirklands is another great place. They have a lot of the big chunky dark pieces that staggers love to use. 4951

@donnatella: You're starting to sound and act like my wife, and that scares me.
I hate it when she watches those shows. It always costs money.

Hubby & I watch HGTV all the time to get ideas for our home , we also go t open models to see what's new & popular . It  not only gives us ideas that we can use , but we can see how they have landscaped the yards & figure out what would look good in our  yard .Right now we are thinking about a  bath-house  by the pool or  something along that line so it will keep all the water out of the house . We would love a screened in porch on the back of our house , but we had Champion come out & give us an estimate & they wanted $30,000 for a 16 X 26 porch not screened in & we already have the patio on which to sit it , we thought the amount was on the high side , so we are thinking about doing it our selves. 4951

@WJo: I had the same idea until I got a quote. Thought they made a mistake and bid building me a new house. The quote was nearly half of what I paid for my house and more than what I paid to completely remodel it.

@safety44...I agree the builders that can & will do the work are so expensive that we are going to buy the materials & do it our selves . Total cost of the materials to do a bath house10 X 10 is just a little over $1300. The cement is already there , we had it poured last year so it won't be too big of a DIY for 2 old folks to do. 4951

@WJo: With the recent new property appraisals arriving, I would for sure consider doing it myself and saving as much as possible. I can see a new bathhouse increasing my appraisal an additional $15,000, meaning you will be paying for the material every year from now on.

@Safety44...here in Kentucky they do not do appraisals yearly , we had an appraisal at our request 4 years ago & & it has remained the same as it was 11 years ago . We had a custom built  10 X 20 shed put up on the back of the property $6,000. custom fence around the  pool $7,500. New double driveway  large enough to park 12 cars $20,000. railing on the front porch  $1,200. 23 New windows & 4 doors & new garage double garage door $8,000. Plus a new roof $8,500. & $30,000 for a new kitchen . When we showed all our receipts to the guy he said all of these items were expected to be in or on the home , except for the pool & a pool will not increase the value of your home . So in Kentucky no matter how much work you do on your home , no matter how much money you spend  on improvements it will not increase the value of your home. The only way you can increase the value of your home is to sell it for a higher price than what you paid & then they will charge the new owners taxes on what they paid for your house. Here in Kentucky we also have to pay property taxes on our vehicles , boats  , trailers , etc. every year . This year we had to pay $950.00 in vehicle taxes , plus $2,800 in property taxes on our home . We would like to move to Florida where there is no vehicle  property tax & no income tax . We were spoiled when we lived in Texas , but the heat & humidity got to my asthma , so we had o move back to Kentucky . We tried Florida , but the same heat & humidity problem . So we are stuck in Kentucky . 4951
