Yesterday morning about 8:00-8:05 I was walking from woodland hills school in crosswalk when a lady who was stopped at stop sign turning left onto tree lane hit me. She was stopped & another car had stopped so I waited the one car waved me on & I waited about 5 seconds before jogging across to make sure. As I got into middle the lady turning left gunned it & slammed on her brakes. Her car hit me in the thighs & my hands splatter on her hood. She did roll down window to ask if I was ok. I was really in shock to actually say anything. All I can remember is I checked myself up & down & yelled at her. She said "I didn't see you ". She had kid in back of car. I assuming she was running late. Bc she was coming down plum valley fast in school zone I didn't get license plate just that she was in white car w the Tx state plates w blue. adopt a pet. She never got out to actually check on me & then she took off. I am a little sore & more shocken up than anything. If it was a child they could have seriously hurt. I live very close to school so I will watching very carefully when she comes down street. Thankfully, it wasn't my kids or anyone else's kids 4951

Thanks for posting!  It seems everyone is just driving like idiots.  I walk down  Plum Vally often to avoid Woodland Hills Drive,  I thought it would be safer.  Maybe not!. 4951

You trust strangers with your life? Enough to jog across an intersection?

You HAVE TO assume everyone driving is THAT idiot. Even in a car. Especially walking or biking.

It sounds harsh and like I'm being hostile, but this is the real world. You got lucky. 4951

Awww no tons of prayers- hope there are no residual injuries!! We cyclists and runners face this daily.  In the heat of th moment we seem ok but 48 hours our bodies realize the damage!!!When my Dad taught me to drive he taught me this when coming to a stop sign- look right then left for cars then look right then left again for pedestrians… Also if at a light look at cross walk lights to see who has the right away. Just the other morning I saw a driver try to make a right turn and almost cream a runner- BUT the runner had the right away- had a crossing light. SLOW down people and pay attention!!@pickles- hope you are ok-  4951

On two separate occasions today alone, I witnessed someone run a red light on KW Drive.
In both instances, the cars were coming from a side street. We had a green light on KWD, but the perps just ran right through their red light.
A person placing their life in the hands of people driving anywhere (especially KWD) are destined to get hurt.
Pay attention and pray you don't step in front of the idiots who drive our streets.
Good luck 4951

I'm so sorry this happened to you; it had to be the scariest moment of your life!I worked downtown for 30 years and near misses were a common occurrence.  I was never hit but I did see several people who were, one of whom was a young woman lying in the crosswalk with blood coming out of her ears and nose.  Never did learn if she made it or not.One of the things you should strive to do is make eye contact with the driver of the car, whatever it takes.  Waving, dancing around, yelling, anything to get their attention on you so they are totally aware of your presence.  Another option is to wear a safety vest -- orange/green -- or clothes  other than navy or black (especially at night).  I often see walkers, joggers, teens out after dark with dark clothing on and it scares me to death because I'm right on top of them almost before I know it. 4951

Thanks I wasn't jogging or walking. I was actually taking one of my kids notebook he left at home. I was wearing red. Usually , my neighbors & I do walk in morning but Thursday morning it was rainy so I just took his notebook up to school bc I live so close. I totally understand not putting my life in stranger's hands but this was at crosswalk in school zone area & time when most parents walk their children to school & late arrival for middle kids. I am more trying to make people aware & tell their kids to me careful. Plus I will find who she is & report her to police. I live across street from school so I see this everyday. Mostly it's grown adults that are in such a hurry. 4951

@pickles it's sounds crazy but was safety patrol still out there?  My DD does safety patrol and she almost got ran over in the middle of the intersection with her flag because some cop in a black pick up dropping off his kid felt the need to make a right at the intersection onto tree lane between her and the curb.  She took his picture with her phone and it was reported.  I don't understand drivers.  Didn't a lady in a white car hit a kid crossing North Park not to long ago and another by Elm Grove.  Weird that it's all white cars doing this. Wonder if it's the same lady.  If I remember correctly she didn't stick around for any of those times either.  I am sorry this happened to you and I hope you are feeling ok. 4951

@pickles i'm happy to say that she doesn't go out in the street anymore this year.  She has a job getting one of the special needs in and out every day.  She covers if someone is out but her only job now is the special needs child which makes me feel better.  My DH once secretly followed her and wanted to know why she slows down at intersections and walks her bike across the cross walk - well that's what I told her to do and she listens.  I've told her numerous times that she needs to be the one aware because the drivers pay no attention to these kids.   4951
