I am a giving person and I would give you the shirt off my back if I knew you needed it.

But my questions is what is the story behind these people. I have seen a similar type family doing it at walmart in porter too and even walmart on west rd and when I drive to the galleria area it's the same thing. It'll be a husband & wife and their small children.

Today @ Walmart on NP the guy was dressed nice with some new looking Nikes and the women too besides the wedges and sweatpants..... but there has to be something going on...

Could it be that the are coming from eastern countries and the smugglers are making them panhandle in exchange for bringing them? (Just a theory of mine)

I really can't find anything online.. does anyone know the story behind this? 4951

That sounds like the gypsies that were all over HEB and the stores along 1960. 4951

I don't understand how CPS hasn't done anything to protect these babies after being put through some harsh weather at times and supposedly they don't have food or baby formula either.

@FoFa: If you have the resources to care for and feed a dog, you don't need my help.  Just sayin.  Take care of yourself first, then you can have kids and pets...

I never give money to panhandlers any more.  I used to, but then I offered to buy a beggar a meal instead but he wanted only cash.  Nope!  Another time, I offered to pay a beggar to do some minor yard work.  He walked away. There are many organizations that will help people in need.  If people would stop giving money to beggars, they would go away.  The real poor people would get the help they neededfrom one of the organizations.  The scam artists would look for greener pastures. 4951

The lady at walmart makes me upset with her baby. He is always sleeping and sweating. I worry about him at times but just seems its not my business. 4951

@Burnsway: Really all you can do is call the police or CPS if you think it is truly in danger.  Doubtful anything will be done though.

@Burnsway: Often it isn't even their own baby, just a prop that belongs to the "clan"  and is passed between them for the pity factor. Often the man and woman aren't real couple either. They are just paired up for the role they are playing. I saw a show that followed some of these gypsy beggars and found them living in a nice, large suburban home living among several family members that all worked the scam. The show said they usually rent a place so they can pull up and travel to a new area when they have worked one place to their satisfaction. They showed them driving nice cars and dropping people off at their different assignments to dupe the well meaning public.  They don't put their kids in school and raise them to be in the "family business".

I've seen the family you are referring to. I fear for the young kids standing in the medium with traffic on all sides.
Don't know about these in particular but many of them work through sort of an agency and vans drop them of and pick them up at designated spots.
Once out in Bakersfield CA. I offered a man and his wife who were begging on a corner breakfast at I-HOP. They turned me down, saying they had already eaten.
I noticed they were both clean snd well dressed.
To my surprise, I saw them later that week in the hotel lobby of Comfort Suites (where I was staying). The girl at the desk said they had been there nearly a month (at $149 per night).
If people need help, there are places to go. It's my belief that most of them you see on street corners and in store fronts do not really NEED help. 4951

@Humble Mommy:

CPS doesn't typically keep up with families begging on street corners. They target people with valid addresses and social security numbers and predictable locations; people they can easily enter into their system and collect their funding. It would be nice if they would help the children who need it most, rather than ripping children away from parents who are actually trying. 4951

They do in fact swap kids to pander. One of the tenets of the trade. Had a friend who taught English in China, same thing. A woman rents the kids from a mother for a day and goes to work with them. But much worse over there, kids use to pull the shirt of my friend begging and would not stop. Finally he had to start yelling at them, still, they would not stop.Never give these people money.. So much free food out there, even shelter. I once gave one some food and he took it and threw it on the ground. That's went I said never again.   4951

Racist much? Most of the people
I see begging are hispanic.
Like at the walmart in porter and walmart on 1960 in humble. Don't forget the new kroger on 59 northpark.
Im romani ( gypsy) I dont do shoddy work, on people's roofs or driveways, and to assume that a race or culture is automatically labeled a con is disturbing.
I have seen plenty of crappy contractors who are white, black or hispanic. If you were to say something like, oh no big deal
There black there all the same. You would be bombarded and be considered a racist.
But i guess the whole politically correct respect everyone dosnt count for us 4951

@chopsaw: I'm sorry you are taking this so personal. You should understand that people refer to groups of people unjustly.
Even in Romania (I take it as your origin), people label groups unjustly.
A large number of people refer to those who travel from place to place begging for a living as "gypsies". These people don't use the term as an ethnic nomenclature, but more as a general definition (erroneously categorizing a heritage).
If you are a true gypsy and an honest person, stand up straight and be proud of it. Don't let the hypocritical categorization drag you down.
I have lived in other countries and have accepted the help of gypsies who did good work and who were accepted in many communities.
Like everywhere, there are good and there are not so good of every kind of people.
I'm Italian, and when someone refers to me as a Dego, I just say "darn tootin and proud of it."
Thanks for standing up as an American, and may God grant you the understanding to accept the ignorance of others. And, ALWAYS, Treat your brothers as you would have them treat you.
