Well, no surprise there. Even though the Texan's pick hasn't lived to his potential, I think those who were calling for him to be drafted #1 by Houston are not making excuses any more. The Cowboys will probably pick him up next.  4951

@SwimSwim: Disagree.  He has enormous talent if put in the right system.  His issues are all about attitude on and bad choices off the field.  I'm not sure his talent has ever been in question.

I hope whoever picks him up includes a performance requirement and a requirement for staying out of trouble with the law.  4951

@thegoodwife:  We ARE talking about the NFL here.  They will overlook just about anything as long as the dollars keep rolling in.

@Retired_Engineer: And if he signs a deal that contractually obligates him to get in rehab, stay clean, and stay away from the parties, he might do well in the right system.  You just simply don't find the sort of talent he has every day and if someone can help him get his head on straight, he could be a key part of a good team for the next decade.  I'm not making any excuses for him at all, but the truth of the matter is that thus far he's been a spoiled kid.  If he decides to man-up, he still has a LOT of football time left in him.

I admired his talent while he was at A&M, and I could pass off his shenanigans as his being young, stupid, and immature (I guess immature covers young and stupid?).  However, if he wants to do well in the Pros, he's got to clean up his act and behave like a Pro.  He also needs to grow up and recognize that he's part of a team.  If he keeps his attitude that he's superior to the rest of his team, he won't get the blocking he needs. 4951

We really don't know if he is is talented enough for the NFL, if he was, he wasted it, if he wasn't the antics covered it up.  There have been some great college players that just couldn't make the transition and there have been some very medicare college players that ended up as great NFL players.  I think it's a different skill set to some degree. One possibility about Johnathan Football could be that he does not like playing football.  I watched a documentary about Todd Marinovich, who said he hated playing and brought up the fact that just because you are good at something, doesn't mean you should do it.  I had not considered that angle before.  He probably should decide that prior to cashing the first check, but I get the point.  He would not be the first person to take a job they hate because it pays well. 4951

He's wasting his God given talent. Once the alcohol and drugs got a hold of him he became lost. He loves partying more than playing football. He is a spoiled brat. In and out of rehab, sounds like a lot of other NFL players. Now he's also abusive. Hope he finds a way to get control of himself.
