Anyone know of a legit/good place to buy a used car.  My DD's car had her engine fail yesterday and I don't really think that it is worth getting it repaired.  It has been a pos since we bought it, but it was used and we got suckered.  That being said, we just need something reliable for just around Kingwood since she takes the Park n Ride to the University.   Is there a legit/good used car place, or is that an oxymoron?  LOL 4951

@Nurse3: We bought a used Dodge from Martin in Cleveland for one of my boys.  It was a good experience, and the car has performed normally with no problems.  The car we bought was only a few years old, so our odds were good that it wouldn't have many problems anyway, but the sales staff and everyone there was good to work with.

No such thang as a good used car. They either have been ropoed or need work the previous owner didn't want to do. 4951

My mom has always had luck with the high-end dealerships like Lexus and the like. People who trade their car in there usually care for the car a bit more. She bought a Durango - fully loaded - older model with about 75K miles that lasted until 150k. I mean if DD takes the park and ride - than she is putting about 10k a year... (that is my experience). If I can math at all today, should last her 5 years - no problem. Then again, just my mom's experience. On a side note, know a trustworthy mechanic who will be willing to come check it out before you buy it. Offer him $50 or a case a beer. That too has helped me out. I bought a 99 Jeep Grand Cherokee for cash from an older couple off craigslist... loved that car. ALSO - My mechanic who I really like and trust says the cars he sees least are Toyota and Lexus just FYI...    DISCLAiMER: I own a 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee and would not recommend it. Electrical issues out the WAZOO - many many many recalls. 4951

@Ebola: Or they could be fleet cars, former leased vehicles, or simply a car that belonged to someone who didn't like it anymore.  Repossessed vehicles may not be bad either.  Not saying what you are stating is not a risk, but not an absolute either.I bought an 8 year old VW for $4K with just under 100K in 2010, sold it at 200K for 2.5k and never had an issue with it, not one.  Regular maintenance was all I did to it.  It was my airport car, then survived a teenager.  There are good deals out there, but there are risks as well. 4951

I am going to be selling my 2013 Hyundai either to trade in or sell outright.  62K miles.

@Stealth83: That would be wonderful, but unfortunately you would probably want more than 5k for that.  LOL
Thank you though.  That is right up the alley of what we are looking for but a little older due to the price constraints.   4951

@mikeveronica: her top is 5k.  We bought this older BMW for her, but it has been nothing but trouble.  We have prob spent a couple of thousand on it and paid $3500 for it to begin with and now the engine is shot.  Get what you pay for but dang, I though it would last her a little while since she doesn't drive that much.

@Nurse3: Yeah, the KBB is a bit more than that.

@Nurse3You could go to both Cars.com and Carmax.com and search by price.  Just plug in 5K and you can get a pretty good idea of what you are looking at.   4951
