Hi- we are new to the area and have narrowed our search to 2 houses we like in Kings Point and one in Kings Forest. We will most likely end up in Kings point since the homes we like are a little more updated. We have one child that will be going into third grade, one going into kindergarten, and one going into pre-k 3. What are your thoughts or experiences with Willow Creek Elementary? What about the two Christian Schools- Covenant (formerly northeast Christian) and St. Martha? Right now St. Martha has a wait list while Covenant does not. Any help will be appreciated. 4951

Avoid the public schools if at all possible. I thank God every day I no longer have to put up with Humble ISD. ( all of my kids are grown and gone) There is also, or at least used to be, The Christian School of Kingwood on Woodland Hills. It was highly regarded at one time. Humble ISD used to be a very highly ranked school system. But over the last 30 years they have really gone down hill. I blame that in part on the lack of a quality Superintendent. We sent him an email once, well my wife did, and she is a grammar Nazi. When he sent back a return email, she printed it out. After she was done with it, had been turned it for a grade he would have made an F. The email contained numerous misspellings and grammatical errors. She replied to him with all the errors highlighted and commented she now knew why Humble ISD was in the shape it was in. 4951

@dac1842: I thought the public schools in KW were highly regarded and sought after.  Besides the superintendent issue, what am I missing here?  Why should we avoid?  The majority of the schools in KW are ranked pretty high on school diggers and great schools.

The teachers and administrators have this our way or the highway attitude. We had a few issues to deal with on more than one occasion. The only way we ever got any satisfaction was to point out in the Texas Education Code where the school was wrong in their actions. If we had not been well versed on the TEC we never would have been given the time of day.  4951

@Catcat - You can also look into Pines Montessori. My kids attend and we love it. I do not know about the public schools, we have never been. I can tell you what I hear from my teacher friends. The public schools are forcused on preparing the kids to pass the STARR (think) test so the school gets more funding. That is one thing with private, they do no rely on the that for $. 4951

@dac1842: Interesting.  Can you tell us the school names?  This is the first time I have ever heard someone say to avoid the public schools in KW.  The schools were one of the reasons we moved to KW.

@Bearfin: Yes, but that is public school education in general. No?

Foster Elementary, Kingwood HS and Kingwood Park HS.  Now granted the administrators that we had the most problems with are now long since retired. But the issues existed, and had I not marched into the Principle's office with the TEC under my arm and the Asst. Supt on the phone, I would not have prevailed each time. I have been in this community for over 30 years. The public school system here is NOTHING compared to what it used to be.  4951

Thanks for your responses. My husband's coworker recommended that we look in Kingwood or The Woodlands since both school systems are highly ranked. The communities in The Woodlands felt crowded and the houses too close. I read somewhere that Kingwood High is one of the best performing schools in the state of Texas- 87th I believe. Am I wrong? Any other thoughts on the elementary schools I listed above? 4951

Welcome to Kingwood! Please don't take the comments of one poster too seriously. I graduated at KHS (25 years ago), sent one daughter all the way through elementary, middle and high school here and have another one currently in middle school. The schools in Kingwood are great overall, no school or district is perfect and all require active parents to ensure success for your children. 4951

I can't tell you about the other schools but I know Woodland Hills is an excellent school and my nephews went to KPark High School and we will be going to Kingwood Middle School next year.  I have nothing bad to say about the school system in Humble.  We have only ever heard great things and as you said are ranked very high.@dac1842 what did you go complain about?   4951

what did you go complain about

@dotti573: I had a special needs child and Foster was awful for us.  The school board knew me by name the year she went because they did not follow her IEP. To the OP: I have heard great things about all the schools you mentioned.
