Monday I decided to have a grilled chicken pita from a deli in the tunnel. Big mistake. After a few hours of eating it, I felt a little nauseous, but not too alarmed. But then in the middle of the night, I woke to the most horrific cramps and sickness. It hurt so bad I was in the fetal position half the night, in the restroom the other half. I ended up in bed for a total of 32 hours because I was just so sick and my body wrecked. I had a fever, chills, sweating, cramps, vomiting, the whole 9 yards. I am TICKED off today (but feel SO much better now). Thinking of calling the Health Dept. I've had stomach flus, I've had stomach bugs, I have NEVER had this before. I was perfectly fine Monday until I ate that. Anyone want to know what Deli it was PM me. I will gladly tell. 4951

Some of those delis in the tunnel just seem like health department nightmares. After many years downtown, I've been to almost all of them. Some I just could never bring myself to visit.  4951

There are several locations of "M" if I am thinking of the same one.  I have never been a fan. 4951

@donnatella - I totally agree. I won't even attempt some. This place dosn't look bad but I've never been a huge fan. I normally bring my lunch but Monday I forgot and was short on time so I went to this particular one as it's right below my buidling. Now I know why they never have a line. Go with instinct next time.@ForeCPA90 - Yes. Several locations and I too have never been a big fan. Now I am just disgusted! 4951

I never eat from the deli's in the tunnel....Just seeing all that food sit in little metal pans with ice under them does not seem like it is enough to prevent germies from growing... 4951

I got to where Phoenicia was pretty much my go to lunch place when I didn't bring my lunch.  Not centrally located or accessible by tunnels though. 4951

Although I too enjoy the  convenience of a deli sandwich or salad, I know that I am always safer eating something that has been freshly cooked, or heated to a good high temperature.  It's usually something in salads or vegetables that cause the issue.  Deli meat has so much salt and preservatives in it that it is hard for bacteria to do much there.  Sorry you felt so bad - when I lived overseas, I would catch bugs like you described 4 or 5 times a year. 4951

@buffaloglenn - 4 or 5 times a year! OMG I can't even imagine!!!! That's horrible! Well I guess I should lucky, I've worked downtown for 11 years and this is the first time I've got food poison. Like I said though, I normally bring my own food or eat at more distinguished places. Lesson learned! 4951

@ForeCPA90 - I too have enjoyed Phonecia. Food is fresh. Now I'm a little scared of everywhere but probably one of the best downtown. I've figured out a way to get pretty close to there from the tunnel. Take the tunnel to 2 Houston Center, go up the escalor and take skyramps through it to Lyndonell, Fulbright and 5 Houston Center (all connected, kind of a puzzle though) and that puts your right acrosss the street. :-) 4951

@Bearfin: I used to work right across the street from the Houston Center, so it was only a couple blocks for me.
The main reason I miss downtown is the Park and Ride though.  Oh how I miss that  commute.   4951
