On Sunday, Ron Vance drove to a parking lot in Pahrump, Nev., a libertarian outpost in the middle of one of the largest and emptiest counties in the United States, to see Cruz speak from the bed of a black pickup truck. Vance was wearing a black-and-orange rugby shirt with the seal of Cruz's undergraduate alma mater, Princeton, emblazoned on the breast. But Vance wasn't a Cruz supporter, at least not yet. His favorite candidate, he said, was Trump."Why not Cruz?" Vance was asked."The whole abortion thing," said the 59-year-old insurance agent. "A woman gets raped or something, she should be able to get an abortion. The anti-gay thing. I don't care. If two guys want to get married, two girls, I don't care. Cruz is against that. Legalizing marijuana, Cruz is against that too. Right now, they're building seven grow houses around here. I don't smoke pot. I couldn't care less. But to me, with ISIS out there, with Syria, North Korea, the economy and jobs … smoking pot is not big on my agenda.""Are you concerned that Trump is too extreme to be president?""No way," Vance said. "All he's doing is throwing fireballs out there to get media attention and to blow up his name. In my heart of hearts, half of that stuff I don't think he believes in. In his heart of hearts, I think he knows you can't get 12 million people and round them up. He knows this stuff won't pass Congress. He just says that. He doesn't really care. He went to Wharton. He's very, very smart. He's a good businessman. He can negotiate. And he's saying what all of us are thinking.""Are you open to being convinced by Cruz today?""Yeah," Vance said. "Of course."Vance wasn't angry. He wasn't crazy. He wasn't a bigot. He didn't hate Muslims or Mexicans. All of the media's stereotypes about Trump voters? None of that stuff really applied to him. He was just an outspoken guy with a thick Pittsburgh accent who'd never felt at home in either party; he'd voted for Carter, then Reagan, then Bush, then Clinton, then Gore, then Kerry, then McCain, then Romney. His views didn't fit neatly into either partisan box, so it was hard for him to pick a president on policy alone. To him, personality had come to matter more.For about 30 minutes, Vance listened carefully to what Cruz had to say. But it didn't make a difference."I can't fault Cruz on anything in particular," Vance said as the crowd cleared out. "But I like Trump. I just like him." 4951

Disagree with him on deportation. Getting tired of this defeatism attitude and people just being ignorant on the subject or any subject for that matter. Obama has deported  2.5 million and he's not even trying!!!! It can be done. Double the effort and in 8 years we could deport all illegals. Totally doable and not some crazy idea.        Since coming to office in 2009, Obama’s government has deported more
than 2.5 million people—up 23% from the George W. Bush years. More
shockingly, Obama is now on pace to deport more people than the sum of
all 19 presidents who governed the United States from 1892-2000,
according to government data.  4951

Building a wall also doable. I built one of Hescos spanning 15 miles in a month with maybe 3 Army company's. Hesco walls are also very labor intensive, way more than a modular system of concrete.If it was a modular system, I could have put up 100 miles in a month. It can be done and could also be paid for by breaking up NAFTA which is costing us like 100 billion, and trade with China costing us like 400 billion.            4951

@doddlebug: I don't know if he can or not but I do know that many things people are saying can't be done can absolutely be done. It can be done swiftly and humanely with the right planning and ideas. Hell, you could offer illegals a check for 25% of what it would cost to deport them and most of them would gladly take it and leave on their own and live like kings in Mexico or wherever they came from for a long time.

I like Trumps ideas on VA healthcare.  I have worked at the VA and it is terrible that we make our vets wait in long lines all dam day for a doctor visit or X-ray.  They should be right behind those that need immediate medical attention, then vets then everyone else.  JMOhttps://www.donaldjtrump.com/positions/veterans-administration-reforms 4951

@TEXASGIRLMAMMA:
He does and his policies are on his website just like everyone else running. The only policy that I can't seem to find is his healthcare policy and that worries me some. He has stated on Hannity that he will replace Obamacare and get rid of any madatory insurance payments. He also states even without anyone doing anything Obamacare is financially failing and won't last past 2018. 4951

It should be the vets as FIRST in line, not the young and lazy who have grown up and now raise their kids on welfare.  What happened to the movement of forcing people back to work after so long on welfare?  I recall a 5 year cap or something similar being tossed around.  It seems we are going in the completely wrong direction, and what was cherished, right and sacred, before Nobama, is not considered wrong, and politically incorrect.  He rewards those who don't and penalizes those that do.  He turned the country upside down, forcing a policy and program no one wanted, to continue to provide for those who don't and won't. If it is right and just, he's against it and wants to tear it down.  Of course the people are near revolt...look at the last few elections with a republican sweep through both houses, and most all political races.  Trump is a kick**** and take names kind of people and the country, as a whole, is hungry for that.  Hillary and Bernie are more of the same.  The other two republicans are basically establishment, nothing new at all.  Trump is a fresh voice, a fresh non-political face and that seems to be what the voters want, right now.  Nobama's so called "change" didn't work for anyone but those with their hands out standing in welfare lines.  America wants real change.  America wants to be great again.  Trump appeals to that mindset, therefore, he is doing  very well in the primaries, so far.  His movement is growing and the voters are eating it up. All of this democrat panic, fear and concern is cute.  Where was it when Nobama was tearing the country down and turning us into a nation of what so many of our previous generations fought so hard for and died for to defeat. Don't like Trump?  Blame the current administration. 4951

@TEXASGIRLMAMMA: Actually, if you listen to a whole rally of his, it is surprising how he hits a lot of his talking points the media glosses over. I was rather surprised when I did find one and listen to one of his rallies on TV a month or so ago. He doesn't break down in details, but says more than the media tells you, or most bloggers who only hit the points they want you to believe.
When I first saw his rally, as I was channel surfing, I figured, I'll watch like 1 or 2 minutes then move on as I can't really stand him.50+ minutes later, I was impressed. Way more so than the debates or listening to others speak about Donald.So then I listened to some Rubio, Cruz, Bernie and little Hillary (Hillary made be vomit into my mouth a little) and now I like Trump even more. Rubio just seemed to have a lot memorized, Cruz is OK, Bernie, well, he just complains and promises free stuff, and Hillary, well, I just don't believe a word coming out of her mouth. 4951

I don't know if he is right either but he is a mesmerizing person and does make a lot of great points about what is wrong without the PR stuff. I think his biggest strength is what people think would be his biggest weakness; bringing people together. Like he said, he loves making deals. When you make deals you give and take, everybody wins in some form. Not like we have now with ACA where it was all done in secret and nobody from the GOP was onboard with it. Never want to do something like that because you end up with a big mess which is what it turn out to be; a big pile of mess that is going to have to be cleaned up . 4951
