One of my DW longtime co-workers has a daughter getting married and we were invited so are going. It's in Friendswood and is at 2Pm but it is a full blown Catholic service followed by a cocktail service so the photos can be taken and then a dinner. Looks like a full day a head, I think I will bring my new camera that came the other day and try it out, still getting used to the menus and features. I do this a lot for friend's weddings. Too often the hired photographer is so busy getting the important must have shots and all the family groups they miss what is going on elsewhere. 4951

Bring a seat pillow, Catholic weddings go a little long and those benches are hard. Sitting on the outside aisle is handy for a mid-service bail-out (up to you if you go back). 4951

Plus, the hired photog takes such a long time to send proofs. We loved that two guests sent us a photo cd right after we returned from the honeymoon. 4951

Irish Marriage BlessingMay God be with you and bless you. May you see your children's children. May you be poor in misfortunes and rich in blessings. May you know nothing but happiness from this day forward. 4951

The wedding actually was fine, the bride and groom looked great and had a wonderful time. Thankfully it was not a full blown Mass with communion and wine and a choir and the priest's sermon was short and to the point. Afterwards the family and wedding party stayed in the church to get the pictures done and we wandered over to the parish hall where the reception was being held. We got in there about 3:15 and had to wait until 4 before the bartenders opened the bar which seemed a bit long, I think most of the guests would have enjoyed something, even soft drinks other than the water being offered. And the bartenders were friends of the groom and didn't have a clue which was kind of amusing. A friend of my DW from her office wandered up when the bar opened and I asked for 2 glasses of wine. They had to find a cork screw, nothing was opened or prepped, cups were still sealed from the supplier. The poor kid's hands were shaking as he poured my glasses. Oh well, we tipped them anyway. They served some nice food, albeit it could have been hotter. The DJ played decent music you could still talk over until dinner and the toasts were done and the dance floor opened and then it got really loud. I had fun playing with my new camera, I guess I shot a few hundred images as well as a video of a rather wild dance. I danced once with my DW, the dance where everyone who is married gets up and then they ask those married a year or less to sit, 5 years, 10, etc... we made it to the 20 mark. We were done by 6:30 so it wasn't too bad. 4951
