I have noticed that my neighbors have started leaving their outside house lights on all night. A few are placing motion lights outside too. I am wondering if there has been a crime spree in Kingwood that I am not aware of.
Thanks 4951

We have had a strange guy walking around that was reported, items stolen from porches and yards in daylight and cars being broken into where I live in Sherwood Trails. We replaced all our lights with the brightest ones we could find so everything stays highly lighted up at night. 4951

Cameras are the answer. Cheap and easy to install. We have lights on at all times. Who turns off the porch light at night is only asking for trouble. Unfortunately we live in an entitlement times 4951

Not when you have the monitor in the main living room where you can watch it anytime the record light comes on we look. It's habit now just to glance periodically all day and night 4951

Why wouldn't everyone leave outside lights on?  This is one the easiest and cheapest ways to deter any crime?I never have understood people keeping their homes so dark at night.

@Fallon: We leave ours off- when it's dark both inside and out- it makes it easier for the person inside the house to creep around and look out un noticed. If you have outside lights on the person inside looking out can only see what's within the light and the person outside can see the person inside moving past Windows and doors. When all is dark the playing ground is even. Hubs taught me that. He even managed to slip out the front door un noticed a few years back and get a partial plate of a car full of teens vandalizing and stealing out of cars on our street. He even managed to get his GPS recovered that he stupidly left in his unlocked car. I'm rather peeved with our back yard neighbor's who installed lights that could light up a small country. They shine into our back yard ruining our evenings sitting out back. I'm going to have to go talk to them and ask to at least put a time on. Not like we're out there past 9. Either that or let my bushes get grown over to block the light. Hate to do that- they'll be hard to keep tidy- but overgrown untidy bushes may be a small sacrifice for obnoxious bright lights. If you want to see just how much you can see into lighted houses - go take a walk around the hood at night. You may be surprised at just how much you can see- around the outside , cars, entry ways and also how the light shines into the house and what's inside- all from the safety of the curb.

We don't lite up our house either. I never understood car dealerships leaving all those lights on. Besides an electric bill that must be a fortune it makes it easier to look around and "work" than if it were dark. I am under the impression that it makes it easier to "shop" and find ways in and out with lights. We shut our blinds and our lights at night. If someone wants to break into my home at night I want it dark. I know where furniture, toys, walls, cords, etc are in my home and can easily navigate it at night. A thief doesn't. So he is either going to stumble or need a flash light. Either way he makes himself known to us and the dog while we remain concealed for a better shot. 4951

Ours is dark too. Not without booby traps. There is no way they can come stumble around without running into one of my little traps . When they do the bells will go off, clashing and crashing, the neighbors pitty mix will be up and barking. I have an area that gives me a good look over 3/4 an acre and I'm on 1/4. I see like a cat in the night. In fact I see better in the dark. A condition from working in dark bars and third shift.
Besides that many nights the young guys build a fire and are out there late. Nothing gets past them.
I'm very blessed to have a fenceless yard and a great neighbor to share it with. 4951
