Why wouldn't everyone leave outside lights on? Â This is one the easiest and cheapest ways to deter any crime?I never have understood people keeping their homes so dark at night.
@Fallon: We leave ours off- when it's dark both inside and out- it makes it easier for the person inside the house to creep around and look out un noticed. If you have outside lights on the person inside looking out can only see what's within the light and the person outside can see the person inside moving past Windows and doors. When all is dark the playing ground is even. Hubs taught me that. He even managed to slip out the front door un noticed a few years back and get a partial plate of a car full of teens vandalizing and stealing out of cars on our street. He even managed to get his GPS recovered that he stupidly left in his unlocked car. I'm rather peeved with our back yard neighbor's who installed lights that could light up a small country. They shine into our back yard ruining our evenings sitting out back. I'm going to have to go talk to them and ask to at least put a time on. Not like we're out there past 9. Either that or let my bushes get grown over to block the light. Hate to do that- they'll be hard to keep tidy- but overgrown untidy bushes may be a small sacrifice for obnoxious bright lights. If you want to see just how much you can see into lighted houses - go take a walk around the hood at night. You may be surprised at just how much you can see- around the outside , cars, entry ways and also how the light shines into the house and what's inside- all from the safety of the curb.
