If you want a great jambalaya, loaded with chicken, sausage and shrimp and a massive portion I highly recommend BJ's. It's like a 30 min drive but worth it. I'm from La and I was impressed. Not a Cajun place but they have that one nailed down. Rest around here are all about the same.      4951

Thanks, y'all! Guess I should have been more precise. We won't have the kids so I prefer not to be somewhere kids will be. Hah! I always think of Zachary's as a place to take the kids. Husband wants crawfish. Me? Eatin's cheatin'! 4951

@ET: I so beg to differ.  We went there on Mardi Gras.  Cool.  It was 5 of us to get together and all of us are high school class mates from deep south S LA.   We asked about the crawfish.  Asked them for a few to taste.  They actually accommodated us and brought us out a few crawfish to taste before we ordered it.  Holy cow .... absolutely awful.

@Cajunmom: Well, you are in Houston.  The bar on Cajun is set pretty low.

There is a little place in the Heights called The Boot.  Run by gen u wine Cajuns...heard nothing but good about it from people that know Cajun food.  One of the owners used to have a food truck up here and served up a ton of mudbugs for events! 4951

@staylifted: We go often, especially when Sonny Boy Terry is playing. We have been fans for years. Great guy and great music! We should definitely get the spouses on board and go. 4951

I also recommend THE BOOT!! Great authentic food -- poboys are amazing and the crawfish is always good. Love the relaxed atmosphere there. It is a family run business and that family is from Kingwood. Definitely worth the drive to the Heights. 4951

Not meant as a knock, more of an FYI and/or suggestion for Zachary's.  When i think cajun I think seasoning / spice.....I've been a few times in the past and the food is bland IMO.Maybe this has been addressed, if so great....I would go give it another try. 4951
