Does anyone have a darker pool finish. Not black but dark blue. I know the City of Houston has rules about darker pool colors. We are building a pool and I would love a dark blue. Some people have told me it just depends on the inspector. Thanks! 4951

Please excuse my ignorance, why do they have a rule against dark finishes? 4951

Hard to see someone on the bottom? I didn't know there was a rule.
We went slightly darker last year and it does get hotter faster in the sun. 4951

I would think in this climate, a lighter color would be preferable. 4951

Some girl drowned many years ago and they had a black bottom pool and they couldn't see her body on the bottom so since then they passed a law on certain dark colors. They said as long as they can see the drain on the bottom it's fine. We have a new build. My pool builder said because our pool is 4-8 ft deep we won't have a issue with the water heating up. 4951

@2danes: Well you have to go with the expert opinion but I will tell you that we had friends who went darker than normal but lighter than yours ( it was a blue) and they said their pool was unbearable in the summer- They liked in best in the fall and spring. Our pool is very light blue- it looked almost white when it was emptied. Last year the water temp heated up too 100 degrees during the hottest part of summer-and its shaded most of the day. Before the trees grew we got a 102 reading- that was during that really hot summer a while back- can't remember the year
