Some girl drowned many years ago and they had a black bottom pool and they couldn't see her body on the bottom so since then they passed a law on certain dark colors. They said as long as they can see the drain on the bottom it's fine. We have a new build. My pool builder said because our pool is 4-8 ft deep we won't have a issue with the water heating up.
@2danes: Well you have to go with the expert opinion but I will tell you that we had friends who went darker than normal but lighter than yours ( it was a blue) and they said their pool was unbearable in the summer- They liked in best in the fall and spring. Our pool is very light blue- it looked almost white when it was emptied. Last year the water temp heated up too 100 degrees during the hottest part of summer-and its shaded most of the day. Before the trees grew we got a 102 reading- that was during that really hot summer a while back- can't remember the year
