Hi neighbors.  I am looking for honest advice and suggestions on the Assisted Living facilities in Kingwood for my mother in law, currently living out of state.  Their websites all look lovely of course and I plan on stopping in for a tour--but do any of you have experience with any of the facilities?  My MIL wants to have a lot of activities - more than just bingo.  Hope you can help. Many thanks! 4951

I don't have knowledge of the specific properties but wanted to suggest dropping in when they don't expect you for a tour. I like to see what day to day looks like in addition to perfection offered during tour time.

Also, when looking for a facility for a relative 10 years ago, I made sure to go in at meal time. You get to see the residents in mass and can see if the food looks edible! 4951

I don't have specific recommendations, I'm fairly new to the area. The state should inspect all nursing homes and assisted living facilities. You might want to see if the facility you are interested in had violations. Some can be very minor, but this may help you limit the search. 4951

Also, you might want a facility that also has a nursing home, so that your mom has a space in the nursing home in the future, if she needs it. When looking for a nursing home for MIL in CA, priority was given to residents of affiliated assisted living communities, which meant she went to the nursing home with an available bed, which was less than stellar. 4951

There was a very similar topic posted yesterday. Scroll down a page or two or three and you will find it. There were a few suggestions posted. I hope you find one that is the right fit. 4951

@XpatQN:

Stay away from rose mont unless they have cleaned their act up. Caused my papa severe injuries due to failure to handle him properly. Atria (if still the name) on stone hollow (?). Was a really great one. We had nothing but good things happen there. You are looking at very expensive. About 3-5000 a month. There is a few others around but I have no experience with them. Best wishes and good luck. I would check all with the medical board and bbb before and also do surprise visits of the facility. Ask to walk thru their dementia lock downs before you decide. Personally I would come get her and bring closer to you. This is what I did for my papa when I got custody of him. This way i could go there anytime of day or night and check on him 4951

Here are a few good ones that we have been involved with over the past few years.
Silverado (South of Kingwood hospital)
Emeritus now Isle of Kingwood
Brookdale (North of Chase Bank on Chestnut Ridge)
Cypress Woods (North of Chase Bank on Chestnut Ridge)

Some of these have home health. Some have skilled nursing. Some have no nursing.
Depends on you needs as to which you prefer. Nursing cost are typically add PBS to the housing cost.

All of the above are very nice and have excellent staff. Some I didn't mention Pmay be nice but staff or food doesn't meet my standards.

Cost ranges from $2000 to $5000 a month depending on needs.

A couple of things to keep in mind is that many are not locally owned and change hands regularly. Another thing, prices are competitive and therefore negotiable. I akin it to being much like buying a car.

Good Luck
