I happen to be from a small town on the Mississippi river South of St Louis, MO.
It is the home of one of the largest lead shelters in the world. I worked there for my first ten years of employment.
They **** it down this past December.
The EPA removed 12 inches of dirt from yards and all the streets in the town over the years, paid out millions to people who developed lead poisoning. Many of these people were and some still are my very good friends.
It was worse when the kids were affected (physically and mentally) many passed away very young. Many still suffer.
Finally, they gave up and shut down the smelter and all the mines in Missouri. Numerous homes were condemned and people lost health, jobs, homes, etc. and it mattered not what race, color or religion they were. They lost it all.
What I'm leading up to is that there isn't enough money on earth to reimburse people for suffering due to lead poisoning. At the same time, keep in mind that these places are people's homes and lives that are being uprooted. The trama is terrific under these circumstances. Depression and suicides are rampant.
Pray that the people of Flint get Federal help as needed and that they overcome this.
And that the people and politicians of Kingwood are never forced to endure such. 4951
