Say you had several years worth of salary saved up in a special fund (aside from retirement).  Let's call it the "I'm a cheap b*stard" and "F this crap, I'm heading out" fund.Where would you go?I'm thinking Amsterdam. 4951

I would be on the first flight to Lisbon Portugal for a couple of weeks then take a train to Madrid Spain to see a true bull fight the take another train down to the coast and stay in Barcelona till I run out of money .... that is actually a trip on our list just need the rainy day funds. 4951

@Odin:
Europe is very nice and several countries can be visited in a reasonably short trip.if you have never been or don't know the areas you want to visit, you may want to consider a tour package.
Spring is the most beautiful time. 4951

I recommend doing a photo safari. Go during our summer because it will be winter in Africa. The lack of foliage makes the animals easier to see. 4951

I'd train hop and bike tour all over Europe- Belgium, Germany, France would by on the list. This time of year though- I'd rent a huge sailboat( with a crew since my sailing skills suck) and I'd hit the islands. 4951

Since I am a hunter I would say Alaska. I would go on that Moose or Brown Bear hunt. If not Alaska then I would say Africa and hunt for the Kudu buck like my dad did when I was a kid. If hunting is expensive then I would go fishing in Costa Rica. 4951

Assuming this includes sig others, I would ask my wife where she wants to go and take that trip with her.  I would then take a year to prepare to thru-hike the PCT.  Time and funds allowing, I'd then go to Ireland. 4951

@Odin: I've been to much of Europe (good idea if you haven't though, and spring is best.  Winter is good if you like to ski).  Other good ones if you like outdoors is hiking the Appalachian trail and some of our national parks if you haven't already visited.

My brother and his wife just got back from 3 weeks in Asia - Thailand, Cambodia, etc. They really loved the trip but definitely didn't do it on a budget. In those countries, I know you can get great bargains on lodging, food, etc.

Personally, I want to go to Chile. I've heard amazing things about that country. 4951

I'd definitely wait until May or later to go to Europe, their winters can be damn nasty. 4951
