This is going to get bad just like when the newspapers in the East Coast were publishing names and addresses of gun owners. The result was a lot of reporters were being retaliated and their privacy was being tarnished when people were mailing them feces and hate letters. It is abuse like this which could lead to changes in open records law and all for a convicted felon.http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2012/12/25/new-york-newspaper-faces-backlash-after-publishing-map-gun-permit-holders.htmlhttp://www.theblaze.com/stories/2013/01/01/newspaper-that-published-the-names-addresses-of-gun-owners-hires-armed-guards/http://gothamist.com/2013/01/04/the_westchester_newspaper_that_publ.phphttp://www.breitbart.com/big-journalism/2012/12/29/ny-paper-doubles-down-publishing-more-gun-owner-s-names-and-addresses/ 4951

The difference being @Stealth83, is that most people do NOT know the police officers names.  So looking them up isn't as easy as you are saying.  And the FOI act doesn't apply to law enforcement officers home addresses.  This is a common sense safety point.  Just like Prison guards are not suppose to give their full names to the inmates.  It is for safety.  I had a uncle in NC who was a police officer, and some did know his address, and it was scary when his kids were little.  More than once he had people knocking at his door, that didn't want to have showing up at your house.  My aunt never left her kids at home alone, even as teens.I have an uncle that was a Warden at a prison in NC, same thing.  He had a murderer show up at his house one night.  The guy had served his time, and was released.  He thanked my uncle for being a positive influence on his life while he was in prison.  Still scared the heck out of my aunt.  To this day she is armed 24/7, and my uncle has been retired for over 10 years. It is a pos move by a pos activist.  But this is Texas and if you read the comments under the stories, you will see that a lot of citizens are willing to help protect the officers homes.  Just another way for someone with zero critical thinking abilities to cause more of a divide in our country, instead of thinking of ways to make positive changes.

@Fallon: If they own a home they also have the option to change their name to simply reflect "current owner" with the appraisal district too. That way a name search with the appraisal district would be useless. We did several closings with officers that went so far as to keep their name off all recorded real property records. It made for a very frustrating title search but was a very effective approach for the officers..

What's the difference in that or in we can google ourselves with the tax roles and find addresses on anyone we want. Heck if you own a home your life is an open book.

@Stealth83: Not really... you can have it read "current owner"  just go to HCAD and put in current owner in the search box. I know someone who use to be a HPD officer and still is with the COH in a position of authority and you can't find her address anywhere.

@thegoodwife: I have a friend that works for the DoJ and their house is smudged out on google street view as well.
Although I do agree with @Stealth83 that it's insanely easy to find someone's physical residence (there are so many more ways than just the tax roles), I also agree that this is just someone stirring the pot for no good reason.  4951

@shodan66: There is no reason to put the officer's names out there. Such a security risk for their family. I thought you were innocent until proven guilty.

When you group names like this for no reason whats the point? Yes there are people that hate cops just because. I don't think all cops are bad.   4951

If I'm a San Antonio cop, good luck getting me to respond to any 911 calls from the paper or any of it's staff.   4951

@thegoodwife: I may have been misunderstood.  I meant that whoever put the list out was stirring the pot for no good reason.  I completely agree that there's no reason to put their names or addresses out there.  I was only supporting the stance that it's pretty easy to get the name and address of generally anyone if you know your way around the shadier side of the web.
