I don't get why anyone would ever use debit to begin with. Â Putting your pin # in, is usually when theft occurs. Â Use your debit card as a cc. Â Way safer for you too this way. Â

Fallon the new chip cards scramble before and after use. Thats why it takes a minute. You put it in the chip reader. It is only allowed one transaction as it approves your pin then it rescrambles all data so that if there is a skimmer in the machine the remake card the thieves make will not work because the data is not reusable.
It also forces all clerks to ask for a pin. Its not fail safe but it reduces theft dramatically.
Also banks are now with the chip card holding businesses responsible if they let you use it the old way. This is forcing businesses to take the theft seriously as before they didnt because they knew banks would cover it.
The bank will still cover your loss but now the stores have to pay the bank back if they did not follow chip procedure.
