I do not have anything negative to say about Suddenlink's service, but the price gouging has got to stop! Suddenlink has decided that they are going to start charging by the amount of data a customer uses, because after all, where else can Kingwood residences go for high speed internet. While the rest of the country enjoys unlimited internet service, we will not be able to enjoy that freedom anymore. I have already sent a compliant to the FCC and the Texas Attorney Generals Office. I recommend you do the same. 4951

@Mbabin70774: Where have you seen this?  or does this refer to the cap they put on their data plans?
I hate it, as it makes streaming 4k content unworkable (hear that suddenlink Ashley) 4951

@Odin:

Sudden link is not the only one increasing rates and cutting services. Centurylink sent out a notice that they are going to start deleting emails from their servers after 90 days in order to free up space.

I understand that, but it's just another sign of the times. 4951

@Safety44: Storage prices have literally dropped like a rock.  There is no valid excuse to be deleting emails (most of which are just kilobytes in size).  Hell, you can buy a 2 TB top tier SSD drive for around 500 now.  Non SSD cost is so cheap it's astounding.Regardless, never use your local provider's email service (use gmail, outlook, or yahoo).  What if you move or change providers?  Changing email addresses is a giant pain the butt.  I've gone through that effort and it took weeks (off and on).

Both companies are bankrupt. Suddenlink is way over leveraged, it is run entirely on loans, no profit at all. Centurylink might be breaking even, again, 0 profit. If we were not pigeon holed into a couple of companies they would fold in this area within 6 months. We are at their mercy unfortunately until  the market is opened. I have Centurylink, service is good but speed is weak but good enough for us. I wanted more speed but they are not going to invest in it. If they go up on prices I will go with Hughes Net, cost more but I'm done with both of these companies. They are small players who can't keep up but know they got us chained.  4951

Yeah, our bill was $50 more for Xmas break because of Ds. Seems the more we pay for faster service, the easier it is to exceed the cap. 4951

@Odin:

I understand and thanks.

I've just had this number and email address since God made rocks. It's home base and has been here forever.
And the storage issue is just another of " those things". 4951

I have the 75Mbps plan with a data cap of 350GB.  However, when I speedtest my connection, I typically find I am running at speeds of about 106Mbps.There Q&A about data coverage includes the following statement:Customer accounts will not be billed for exceeding a monthly data plan
until the third overage. On the third and subsequent overages, the
monthly plan will be increased in installments of 50 GB at a cost of $10
per installment.Here is a summary of my data usage.I've been over 350 for the past three months, so I expect that my next bill will be $60-80 higher.... unless we reduce our data.  You might wonder why the big increases.... well, my son moved back home in July of last year and he is constantly streaming movies, playing games, etc.   So guess who's going to pay for the data overages? 4951

@Retired_Engineer: The 75 plan was auto upgraded to the 100 plan last year.  They said it was a free upgrade, but then raised prices a few months later.
constantly streaming movies
 4k?  Cause that is some serious bandwidth usage.Netflix has an account setting to limit the streaming quality to reduce the data usage.  Might want to lock him down to the mid level quality.But regardless, it totally sucks that the cap is what it is.   4951

@Odin:  I'm not sure what the issue is that you're talking about. I'm not ragging on you.... I'm just confused.    I use Suddenlink and have a Suddenlink email address.  However, I download all my email to Outlook on my PC and manage it there.  If you use Suddenlink as your ISP, and use an email service like Gmail, the amount of data you download for email is the same no matter which email service you use.  So why is storage an issue?  Is the concern for people that leave their email on their email service?  I know several people that do so they can access all of their email via their PC, smart phone, or tablet.  I realize that if I ever change ISPs, I will have a hassle changing all my ebills and other contacts.  I wish I had used a Gmail address when I switched to Suddenlink, but too late now.  I have a 1TB primary HD and a 2TB secondary HD.  I also have 1 and 2 TB external hard-drives I use to backup my internal hard-drives (plus a few other external HDs and 8GB flash drives).  So, I really don't have any problems with storage.   My son has an SSD drive and he loves it.  My motherboard is not compatible, but my next PC will be!

Good thing I use my tmobile hotspot I don't have worry about using data as I have unlimited everything on my phone so when my lease expires at my apartment I'm canceling my internet cause I won't need it. As I am moving to Huntsville in 5 months😅 4951

@Odin:  I had the 50Mbps speed when the increase was made, so it went up to 75Mbps when they did the overall increases.  I just checked my last bill and you're correct, I am now on the 100Mbps plan.  I didn't even notice that they did that.  It was probably when I bought my own router and was talking to the guy at Suddenlink so they could connect to it.  He mentioned something about a faster plan and I probably said something like "sounds good".  Emoticon

@Retired_Engineer: I was referring to centurylink's contention that they needed to delete emails after 90 days to free up space.  Storage space is mega cheap.  Just doesn't compute.  Even RAID drives are cheap now.
I don't download my emails to local drives (except sensitive ones that can't be in the "cloud" and I would never use normal email systems for that anyway).  I don't want to have to worry about migrating PST files and such to new machines.  I get new laptops and stuff all the time, so downloading emails (and then having to transfer them to new devices) is just one more hassle I don't want to deal with.So, I just use the web based email apps for the most part.  A 90 day limit would be totally unacceptable to me. heck I have emails going back 12 years on one account. 4951

@Odin:  Yeah, I can see your point now.  That would be a hassle.  I get a new PC about every 5-6 years so it's not a big hassle for me.
