What consists of regular eggs? Is it worse than both of those?

I've found that cage free, organic have a much nicer yolk....a deeper yellow and overall a nicer egg as well as flavor.

Typically I will buy free roam but......what's your point?

Animals that are raised for food...are just that....raised for food.

Personally I like my eggs over easy with a side of bacon and an English muffin.

If that makes me some sort of a contributor so be it.
Darwinism in explanation......further...the food chain.

Unless chickens can get jobs, pay taxes or drive cars they are an animal that we sow for our nutritonal survival ...and protein is a part of that 4951

@FoFa: your right. I have done a lot of research in this due to my cancer. That is why I buy my eggs from our farmers market. It's a Hispanic lady right in front to the left. I have been to their ranch. Cage free means just that free roaming. They do not feed unhealthy soy grains to their animals and you taste the difference. She will invite you and kids to their tour. You will be impressed. Also has bison. You can order what you want week before.
For those of you buying natural harvest chicken or meat from Kroger or elsewhere that is good ole Purdue. They have so many violations against them they were shown on channel 2 with someone with a camera working there undercover four to six chickens pet cage. One was not laying the guy took it out stompt it right there. Left it there. Nasty. They lost money so then bought the name in green wrapping natural Harvest. Google them. That's why I want a whole Foods but I really appreciate that one booth on Thursday.

Don't eat meat-problem solved Emoticon

@RogueHippEE:

You sound like my dd. She is vegan. Drives me crazy. She does not want an animal to die for her to eat. She does no dairy and no soft drinks. No sugar. Not much left. Lol 4951

Have some people in Forest Cove raising their own chickens. I image the neighbors don't care for it that much but I believe it is allowed. Also horses if you have enough room. Thought about doing it but raising chickens is a lot of work. Might do it when I retire. 4951

I purchased the better eggs for awhile, but I found I was tossing probably 1/4 of them because they had that spot of blood, which personally freaks me out, I can't get over it.   I don't normally see that with the cheaper eggs.  The better ones were a lot more expensive, so I had a hard time justifying it.  4951

"cheap" eggs aren't that cheap anymore.  I did see Aldis has them on sale this week.  I can't justify the expense for "cage-free" or free- roaming.  I just buy whatever is cheaper.  Groceries are so expensive.  We eat a LOT of produce and that is the bulk of my grocery bill.  More than meat, poultry , fish, cheese, etc.  I budget $1200 a month for grocery store items and eating out.  I just can't afford to raise mybudget anymore.  I do buy organic whole milk but that is the extent of my "green" foods. 4951

@beastmode:

We thought of raising chickens but between the hoa restrictions, the time and effort to care for them, and that the cat would have a field day with a bunch of chickens running around we decided to just stick with store bought eggs. 4951

We buy mostly organic foods but no telling what you are getting. I know they get inspected but if you know when those folks are coming around, easy to game the system...hide the non organic feed, un cage the chickens....I know Happy Eggs got dinged for it a while back but said that it has since been resolved. I don't have a lot of confidence in anything organic but my wife wants it so we get it. 4951

Don't eat meat-problem solved

@RogueHippEE: Chickens and Cows are both domesticated animals.
They could not survive in "the wild" for the most part.Do you know what a horrible death they would suffer if we stopped eating them?Time would better spent making sure that the slaughter industries treat the animals humanely.Also 98% of the eggs produced are NOT fertile, so in reality you are not causing the death of an animal.You are really stopping the eggs from rotting is all. 4951
