Cruz and his closest rival, Donald Trump, represent themselves as basically "outsiders" of the GOP. Although both are allied to the party, Cruz and Trump also advocates what the party can consider "anti-establishment" ideals.According to an article by Vox, Cruz is loathed by many Republican politicians because he allegedly presents himself as not a "team player." In addition to that, many Republicans also see Cruz as positioning himself against the Republican effort time and time again.For Rubio, he sees Cruz as someone who changes his stance based on political calculation, instead of genuine conservative beliefs.LINK 4951

I don't know about Cruz.  I don't dislike him, by any means, but he seems terribly green.  What is he, around 41?  That's young for a presidential candidate.  Maybe a Rubio/Cruz ticket?   Trump has some good points, but I just don't see him as being able to swing the nomination, or even an place on the ticket.  4951

We need a "NONE OF THE ABOVE" choice on the ballots.  If it wins, a new election will be held in two months and NONE of the candidates from the first election can run again.And the Electoral College needs to be scrapped and the winner decided by popular vote. 4951

@Retired_Engineer: IDK, I've done some research in this, and believe it or not, the Electoral college sort of evens the playing field out a tad.
It stop s states like California and New York getting together to elect one person by popular vote (just as an over simplified example).I went in thinking Popular Vote is the way to go, and came out in favor of the EC. 4951

@donnatella

Of the republican group I think Rubio has the best chance of winning the election. Cruz has many qualities I like and positions that are good. I just don't think he is electable. And I don't think he would bring anything to the table as a VP candidate. Too polarizing.

Same with Trump. Just not an electable candidate in November.

Rubio is not perfect but none of them are. But I do believe Rubio could be elected president. 4951

Well, I'm a Kasich guy but I realize he's a longshot unless he shows really strong in NH. Rubio would be my 2nd choice for sure. It's funny...normally if there was a senator from Texas and of Hispanic heritage who was running as a Republican, it would be an absolute slam dunk for me. It's just too bad it's Cruz, who I find repugnant. He's a slimeball who will do anything to win (see that mailer he sent out in Iowa). How do you expect to run a country when everyone on both sides of the aisle hates you?  4951

We get it, only the moderate Republican (Rubio) can win.That was proven in 2008 and 2012 when moderates McCain and Romney won the GOP nomination.Only one problem with the theory.  The moderates lost in 2008 and 2012.Reagan ran Conservative.  He won two landslide victories.HW Bush ran on a liberal economic record when he ran for a second term.  He lost.  BobDole, moderate, lost to Clinton.W Bush ran twice on Conservative ideals.  He won twice.History shows the GOP nominee wins when he's a Conservative.  Conclusion for GOP:  run moderates.Look at some of the reasons given for why Cruz wouldn't be a good President."He's too young, I like Rubio instead."  Cruz is a year older than Rubio."Cruz and Trump aren't electable.  They're too far right."  Moderates lost for the GOP in 1992, 1996, 2008 and 2012."How do you expect to run a country when everyone on both sides of the aisle hates you? "  The problem hasn't been people not liking each other.  The problem hasn't been gridlock.  The problem is crossing the aisle.  Cooperation has always meant cooperating to push the progressive/liberal/socialist agenda.  The problem has been progressive policies based on liberal/socialist ideals.  The people who don't like Cruz are the people who passed Obamacare; who passed multiple tax hikes and multiple massive spending increases; who allowed Obama to usurp Congress' power to ratify treaties; who allowed Obama to fling open the borders to crime, terrorism and disease; who sat doing nothing when Obama handed weapons to drug cartel criminals and called back help for Americans in Benghazi. 4951

@fcabanski: I hear this argument all the time. We ran moderates against (Bill) Clinton in 92, 96 and Obama in 08, 12. The part that gets left out is that NO ONE was going to beat Clinton or Obama in those years. This year, Hillary is ripe to be defeated. You couldn't say that about Obama in 08 or 12.
Cooperation has always meant cooperating to push the progressive/liberal/socialist agenda.  The problem has been progressive policies based on liberal/socialist ideals.

You know the Republicans already have the House and the Senate, right? So why do you think a Republican President (Rubio) would be working with a Republican House and a Republican Senate to pass liberal policies? Has Ted Cruz made you that paranoid? The idea is to get a Republican in the White House so he can COOPERATE with the Republican House and the Republican Senate to reverse 8 years of Obama. If the House and Senate Republicans hate Cruz (which many do), then that ain't gonna happen. By the way, I don't have a problem with Cruz's age...I just think he's a dirty slimeball who will do anything to win. Has nothing to do with his age.  4951

I don't like this argument that either party needs control of all three branches of gov to get anything done.   4951

@FoFa: This is a really left wing source. You aren't going to get fair analysis from them.

Big Cruz fan here.  Yes he is hated by the Establishment Republicans because he doesn't follow the party line of kowtowing to Obama.  Trump scares me to no end.I can live with Rubio being the nominee, yes he was involved with the Gang of 8, but no one is perfect. 4951

@SwimSwim: How are the Republicans going to "kowtow" to Obama when he's not in office anymore?
This "establishment vs. non-establishment" rhetoric is going to rip apart the GOP from the inside out. With Ted Cruz leading the way. And the Democrats laughing at us.  4951
