Well the airlines are really making harder for the business traveler. The airlines are allowing those traveling with kids 2 and under to board ahead of all others. While I don't care about boarding first, I hate that they are encouraging traveling with children. Nothing is more irritating on a flight that a crying child, or parents that fail to control their kids. Of course, the next irritation is the person that is seated around you that yells when they talk and talks incessantly...  4951

@dac1842: I don't think the airlines are encouraging traveling with children, but they are just trying to make it easier so that those with small kids don't have to stand in the cattle line as long.  We traveled internationally with small ones including an infant.  The three year old was much tougher with his desire to move around.  Luckily, neither cried much as we had toys and things to keep them busy.

So now we have ....your kids make me mad at food places. Dont encourage them to fly. Too much noise at the park. They ruined my movie and many other anti kid threads on here.

Shut up. Sit down. And dont move. Be seen . Not heard. Is old school. We figured out they were humans about 60 decades ago .....I thought.

I always thought of it like I was getting paid to travel so I didn't mind standing in line.

I also used to travel some with my family and appreciated the airline letting us get the kids settled before the plane filled up.

Helped everyone. 4951

Sometimes the parents aren't the best at planning for a trip, kids need to have things to occupy them when they are little. Looking out the window of the plane only lasts so long. A parent who is a seasoned family traveler brings things, books or toys and snacks although the TSA makes it more challenging with what they will allow. And to be honest I don't think the airlines are always that helpful. I've heard of several instances where equipment changed and suddenly the seats chosen were no more and they make very little of an attempt to seat the family together on the new type of plane. Splitting up the parents makes coping with small kids harder. 4951

So why should everyone pay the same fare if they are not treated fairly? Why are some given special privileges? I am all for those who have disabilities boarding first, but children are a choice, they are not a disability. If they purchased a ticket, then they get in line like everyone else.

Yes scrooge does live. Yes I do expect children to behave when eating out, yes I do expect kids to be quiet on airplanes.
But kids don't learn those things without parents teaching them that.

It is not usually a case of bad kids, as much as it is bad parenting.

You don't let kids run around while eating out, you don't let kids yell and scream while eating out.

Traveling with kids on an airplane requires that you keep your kids entertained. It is not up to me to do that. Don't take a nap while your kid runs amok on the plane and expect the flight crew to be the baby sitters.

No one objects to well behaved kids. I have raised 2, one has gone on to be a Paramedic and the other a U S Marine. They were not without challenges.

I have 7 grand children. Ages 13 down to 2. They are not permitted to misbehave in public. They are acutely aware Papa believes in, and practices corporal punishment. They all know if I have to say sit still, be quiet, don't run, stay here more than twice, the third time is a spanking.

What is the result? All of them, including the 28 year old Paramedic and 22 year old Marine say yes sir and yes ma'am any time they are addressed by anyone, anywhere. They respect authority, they know that they are welcome to voice opinions and opposition as long as it is done respectfully.

I ran a very strict household. If you broke the rules you were held accountable. If you did well, you were rewarded accordingly.

A day never went by that you did not hear I love you, and that is true to this day. No phone call ends without I love you.

I was not perfect, I was consistent, and they all know what the expectations are.

They let them board first to speed up the boarding process, or at least that is the intention.  I used to take 4 flights a week, and have put up with my share of screaming kids.  Truthfully, air travel brings out the worst in us, I used to have to constantly put myself in check and remind myself this is not my personal airplane, and just because I and other frequent travelers know the drill and have a routine, does not mean occasional travelers do.  One badly behaved child will make you forget the 20 well behaved ones.Do you actually believe that airlines should discourage people from traveling with children?  Seriously, it's an airliner, not your own private jet.  Calm down and relax, get a good book and some good noise cancelling headphones and chill out.Edit:  I agree 100% with your last point.  Quality headphones are a must for this reason.  4951

It's not fun for the parents of the crying baby/toddler too.  Been there in first class with my 2 year old crying her head offl the whole flight, fighting a nap.  Really really sucked.  I got a lot of dirty looks.  But there wasn't anything I could do.   4951

Maybe you dont but we do. Infact we are going to an homeschool activity later today where the teacher always tells the boys to let the girls and babies get snacks first. We also allow them to eat, talk, make noise and be human...lol

The infants I can take, they don't know any better. I have asked a mom if she would let me help her with a crying infant.
But, that is why they make benadryl. Give them a dose when you sit down, and the kid is out like a light before take off.

And it does not harm the kid one bit. I have heard Pediatricians tell parents the same thing.

I do like kids, just want them controlled and disciplined. 4951
