I can't wait to try it out, as I commute over to 249, three days a week! 4951

Hopefully that will open up traffic a bit to/from the west end, enough to see a noticeable difference in MY commute. 4951

Hopefully it will take enough traffic off BW 8 to make that an easier drive. 4951

Once a month I drive my MiL to the Woodlands for her appointment with the Pain Management Dr. and we get to see how it's coming along. We go this Thursday and I'm wondering if they have taken FM1314 back up to 4 lanes, it tends to slow down there with it restricted to just 2 lanes. 4951

@Chrisinkingwood: Hadn't as of last week.  Looks like they had a few more weeks of work on that ramp areas.

A concern may be when traveling south from north on I-69 and wanting to go west,
to exit on the Parkway requires coming to a red light on the feeder road
then turning right. That is how it looks now. If they do not build an entrance
ramp, traffic going west will build on the feeder. There is no activity now indicating they intend on building one. 4951

@Mrep43: I hate that.  I'm sure it is in some later plan, they are just releasing the next leg down to I-10 east, but wish they would do it all at once and get it over with.

Any idea what the tolls will cost?  I'll probably try that way to Austin, even though I really don't like 290. 4951

@ET

I hope it in their plans. It is hard to imagine
they leave it as is because exit traffic would extend
back on the freeway. 4951

@MarT: I was curious myself but can't find any good information.  I did find this about Section E from 290 to I-10, which is about 15 miles....this was from 2013 so probably higher now (for some reason toll roads have much higher rates of inflation than anything else)  The new stretches could be pretty pricey. The cost of tolls on the new Grand Parkway will depend on the type of vehicle and where a driver gets on and off the toll road. For drivers of two-axle vehicles, a one-way trip between I-10 and US 290 will cost $2.88.

@ET I know what you mean about the price increases.  Generally, I only take the Katy toll road when it's $1.00, just to avoid the congestion through there when I have to go to Austin.  Otherwise, I try not to use toll roads.  4951

@MarT: Chronicle in October....wow.guess they plan to pay it off in the first year.Driving along the Grand Parkway from U.S. 290 to Fort Bend County will cost $3.38, up from $3.30.The new rates also revise the planned tolls for the new segments of the Grand Parkway from U.S. 290 to U.S. 59 through the Tomball, Spring and Kingwood areas. In total, to drive from around Cinco Ranch to New Caney in 2016 when the new segments open, it’ll cost you $10.69, or about 20 cents a mile.

@ETDo they ever remove the tolls, when the road is paid for or is this a private road?  I grew up in Colo, we had the Boulder Turnpike when I was a kid, they paid if off, removed the tolls.  But they just added a tolled lane recently.  They also have E-470 which is pretty pricey to drive, but it is private and the tolls will never be ended.  4951

I believe it will be for life.....We had tolls up north that we're only supposed to be in place until the road was paid off. They weren't going anywhere until there was a massive accident when a truck failed to stop - killed nine people. They finally took them down after a big uproar.  They are constantly threatening to reinstate them now that the technology is better and the state's finances are in the toilet. I'd prefer a couple pennies on the gas tax instead of a toll system 4951
