Just do your homework and compare prices for the windows, labor, repair policies and warranty info. My stepson made the mistake of just hiring a company from a salesman that knocked on his door, he only needed about 8 or 9 for the front of his house as the former owner had done the rest. He payed some kind of crazy price like $15,000 and I thought the quality of the installation was horrible with screw heads all showing in the tracks, etc. That being said I did my own. Measured the spaces and ordered Pella from Lowes. My son and I picked them up when they came in and did the R&R. And I was glad we did it because we replaced some siding and trim that was starting to rot and did a proper job of applying flashing tape and caulk to seal them up. But I realize not everyone is able to do their own installation.
@Chrisinkingwood: What Chris said is critical. Most of the windows themselves are of a similar quality, but the installation is key. Many installers will take shortcuts and not install them well, with only the wood trim keeping the window in place. Make sure that the size they ordered and installed is correct, and that they don't trim the aluminum outside of the window down so it fits where the original window was, and use proper flashing tape and caulk. That leaves you with a window that can withstand high winds, but it is not securely installed. We used Ron Kinder for some that we had replaced and were happy with the price and installation.Â
