@Ellen77:
Terrible news. Just another sign of the times indicating lack of respect for others.
Hope you find the bikes.
What neighborhood do you live in?
Did you report them to the police?
Give us a description and We will keep our eyes open for them.

I'm sorry about the bikes- look around the greenbelts and drainage ditches around you house.
Not to beat a dead horse and I am sure you have learned this lesson now. I know it really sucks when the bike is used for commuting!!!
NEVER leave bikes outside
ALWAYS lock the bike.

My commuter bike stays in the garage. My road bike stays in the house. I have a lock and use it on my commuter- even if I go to Starbucks and can see the bike. I never leave the road bike anywhere - I'm either riding it or its inside or locked in the car when transporting.
Bike theft is nothing new- a friend of a friend got his 10k racing bike stolen from Starbucks when he was getting coffee. Tons of people and no one even noticed a guy take it. He found it in a pawn shop.
It sucks but the best way to stop it is to put it in the garage and use a lock. 4951

Sucks. When I do yard work in the back, always close my garage door. I use to not do it but all it takes is 5 secs for someone to see my blower or something they want, grab it and fly. A lot of yard crews, random people walking around...sure some of them are always scoping out situations. If they see me walk to the back and that garage door is open, easy takings. 4951

Sorry to hear that. I really hope you can get them back.  I would file a police report if you have not already.  And like others said, be on the lookout for them.   4951

I hope people realize that going up on someone's porch at night is dangerous. 4951

I am amazed at when I drive around how many kids just drop the bikes on a lawn or curb...  Heck I have seen 5 or 6 piled up before...    I'm sure the thieves are just driving around filling a pick up.I do agree I have seen them dumped on the greenbelts before might want to take a look. 4951

@doddlebug: It's not just today though.  35 years ago at my elementary school in SW Houston, my locked bike was stolen, with someone cutting a chain lock.  Two years later I was riding home from school on my next bike, and two older boys rode up next to me, hopped off, and put a knife at my throat and told me to get off my bike.  So, it's really not just today's society, but is definitely reflective of our more "modern" one.  Those events are part of the reason I choose to live in Kingwood, and not where I grew up.
